[#2910620]

Been wanting to do a century ride for a long time and today I finally achieved it. 102 miles in 6 hours.

It was made easier by being a club ride so I could save plenty of energy by riding in the pack, but 100 miles is 100 miles so I'm chuffed tonight. ๐Ÿ™‚

doffing of cap in your general direction. A positive phrase for any cycling achievement

Chapeau: a french term for which basically means hats off. Its used by the more cultured of the cycling community but id like to see it become more widespread. Chapeau to to the lad who still enters time trials despite finishing 15minutes after the marshals have gone home just cos he loves cycling! Chapeau to the cyclist who gets dropped in a race and still finishes it out arriving in 2 hours after the sandwiches are eaten. Chapeau to the attacker at the start of a days racing knowing the potential for pain could be beyond what he is willing to endure. Next time your out cycling go alongside someone and throw a โ€œchapeauโ€ their way.

Chapeau in deed, it's a great feeling.

Now do one solo, the pain is worth it. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

6 hours isn't sluggish either. What sort of terrain?

Well done, it's great isn't it? I just did my first hundred too (not as quick as you though, 6 hours is going well), and it feels like I could go a lot further, opens up the map to all sorts of possibilities!

6 hours is good going!

You do get the bug though. Got a double planned for August - though that's with a cheating couple of hours' kip in the middle of it... Aiming for a metric quad next year ๐Ÿ˜

6 hours is very, very good for your first century. Actually it's good for any century. Well done. Aim higher now young man, the double awaits you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have my eye gingerlly on the third but as you might expect, he's not a very nice individual. He has a lot of pain to deal out. And I suspe3ct the bugger enjoys it.

gotta do this. Can do 60+ milers easy now. just want to crack the 100. Is it allowed if you do it all flat and stop for cake and coffees and stuff? just so long as it's 100 in one ride right?

It's all good. You'll know in your heart whether you've done a proper one or you need to go back and do it properly ๐Ÿ™‚

My first one saw the squash in my waterbottles turn to slush puppie within six miles, my two buddies drop out at 35 miles, and constant cramp from 60 through to 90 miles. After that I was ok because I couldn't feel anything in my legs anymore. I knew in my heart I'd done a proper one ๐Ÿ™‚

(They've been easier since.)

Anyway, if 60 is easy then you'll be fine for a century, stop worrying about it.

Should have said that we did stop for a short lunch break half way round and that 6 hours is the riding time. Wasn't particularly hilly either.

The plan next is to do a hillier solo 100. I have a gpx of the Hampshire Hilly Hundred so will probably do that.

A few stats from the ride.

how on earth do you find time for a double century? I assume it's a proper one not a metric?

My longest is 140miles but it had a cafe stop which. Was out for about 9 hours, 8.5hours solo riding. Need to do it again as it's a good training ride for the Kielder 100.

Well people go and do 24 hour races - it doesn't take as long as that. You just have to commit a day to it (don't get me wrong, I've never done more than 110 miles), I personally find it soul destroyingly boring, big respect to people doing crazy long rides.
