So I'm trying to plan a long distance route in the UK, aiming to use as much national cycle network as possible. CycleStreets seems fairly good, are there any other options?
I find this useful for checking distances - http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx
the sustrans website itself has a great interactive map of all the routes.
Google Maps has a cycle routing option now, which picks up a lot of bike specific roads and paths. There is also a bookmark plugin that will convert a Google Maps route into a GPX:

Bikeroute Toaster is particularly good for elevations too. Helps dodge the bullet of stupidly steep climbs from time to time for me
Google maps walking option is about as good as it gets.
