So I’ve been looking on Trailforks and there looks to be a few trails to the south/west of cwmcarn. Basically on the other side of the dual carriageway to the trail centre. What are these trails like? Is there enough there to keep you busy for a few hours? Are they easy to find? And where do people park?
We go to cwmcarn quiet a bit, probably once a month so finding some new places to ride around there would be good. After finding a lot of the off piste riding around the Forest of Dean we don’t bother with the trail centre at all any more.
Thanks
There's a bit of everything over there, from gentle runs to super steep. All natural so not great in the wet plus they occasionally get rutted up by motorbikes. I don't ride them myself but go through that bit on one of my local loops between Cardiff and Cwmcarn quite regularly. Best thing to do would be to ask some of the local DH riders next time you're in Cwmcarn as they'll know exactly what they're like at that time. As for finding them just ride along the fireroads and you'll see the odd trail disappearing down, same as the FOD stuff in that you have to be willing to explore a bit.
Not a local but I have explored the area a fair bit, not into trail centres much prefer steep stuff.
There are some really good trails in the area and it’s well worth exploring there is plenty to find there!
