Ribble have new Crossmax ST wheelsets for about £315 (after 10% discount has been applied).
That makes them the same money as Hope Pro 2 / Arch Ex wheelsets
So... Which to buy?
Will go on my FTM Carbon new build which will be used mainly for xc and light trail centre usage.
I'll be using 2.25" Nobby Nics so he ST's shouldn't be too narrow.
I'm a heavy lump too (92kgs)
I would go with the Hope option having had Crossmax ST's. Over the course of maybe 1500 to 2000 off road miles (not especially rocky, challenging or jumpy) I had the following issues.
Freehub slipped and clonked from time to time.
Spokes in rear wheel creaked.
Rear axle snapped.
All were fixed under warranty. Hope hubs and a decent build are more reliable if a little heavier.
OP, where are you seeing the Hope/Arch Ex at that price?
Right. Well quick decision made.
Hope Pro 2 on Arch Ex with red hubs and black rims all ordered. £285 to my door by the end of the week.
Wicked Cycles win again!
I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that wheel "systems" are basically a stupid idea. Will be quite glad when the last of mine is gone, but that's a long way off, certainly won't be buying another though.
