[#2046220]

Thinking about getting one of these to do some road training on over winter, along with a bit of cross perhaps and the occasional forray around Epping Forrest and Surrey Hills. Guessing it's pretty well suited to all these tasks? What have been folks experiences with theirs?

cheers 🙂

No Ton that was Mark Beaumont who rode a Koga Miyata (Dutch) in 2006/7(?) with the Rohloff. 2 or 3 others have ridden it since but to me knowledge only one has been ratified by Guiness Records and he rode an Alfined Croix De Fer. Vin Cox here - http://www.greatbikeride.com/index.php

anyone care to venture an opinion on this? £800 with the following upgrades - thomson stem & seatpost, chris king headset... 1 year old and in pretty good condition (apparently)...

Complete bike was around £1000 new wasn't it? Thinking £800 might be a little overpriced, even with the upgrades bits?

that's what I thought... I'm thinking more like £700 would be fair to both parties... shall see if he goes for it I guess! It's been for sale on Bikeradar for a while...

I had a 2010 CdF and sold it recently. A fantastic concept that seemed to tick all the right boxes as a commuter. Plus it looks nice. However, I was a bit disppointed by it. Here's why -

1. It is really heavy. This must be largely down to the frame (apparently lighter for 2010?!) but probably also the wheels. It really is a bit of a brick.
2. The paint is not very durable.
3. The parts are OK, but not great.

I bought it to replace a Dolan aluminium CX bike (nothing special, frames are £150 on eBay). However the Dolan rides so much better, is more responsive and ligher. I raced the Dolan a couple of times, and it was up to the job.

So the CdF may a good choice for long distance touring, but not what I had hoped for in a CX/commuter and defo not suiting for CX racing!

I was all ready to buy one myself until I checked one out at a local shop. They are seriously heavy, even compared to a reasonable rigid disc braked MTB. As much as I wanted discs there was no way I was lugging that beast around.
I think if you riding is going to be more touring, laden long distance maybe short commuting and the occasional faster road ride it'd be perfect but if it's mainly unladen, faster longer commutes and road rides and cyclo cross racing there are so many better options.
I went for a Tricross sport in the end, very pleased with it.
