Morning all,
how do I stop American Classic Race Tubeless wheels from creaking?
The racket seems to be coming from where the alloy nipples fit into the rim, it's continuous and loud enough to curtail rides through embarrassment.
Cheers all ๐
Tighten them up - spokes are too loose...
That was my first thought, but they've only had about 3 hours use, and only started this last ride :s
Add couple of drops of three in one around each of the the holes + the nipple end where the spoke goes in before you tighten them, too.
Oh, and hope the alloy nipples haven't already seized onto the spoke threads ๐
Things only creak when they move, and they shouldn't be moving ๐
To be honest given the amount of b*****ks the AC website has about how their wheels are the best thing to happen to wheels since the circle was invented I would expect these wheels to behave themselves for more than a few hours.
Chainlube hasn't sorted it, too thick maybe, so thinner oil next. Spoke tension looks good to me, and given the feathery weight of the wheels I'm loath to start giving the spokes a tweak as a first move.
It wouldn't be so bad but the noise is a melodic squeaking, it sounds as though I'm running over the mouse choir in Bagpuss
The only times my wheels have creaked is when the hub shell was cracked, or when I cracked a rim.
What he said ^^.
Check the rims for cracks around the eyelets and join.
Done that and thankfully no sign. Thing is the wheels were silent last time out, then this time every part of the rotation made a squeak from the off.
Have silenced them tonight by carefully squirting GT85 into each nipple/rim junction, then rotating each nipple 1/8th of a turn there and back, so fingers crossed
I'd already e-mailed AC so we'll see if they have anything to say.
Think I'll be sticking to Stan's rims from now on ๐
