Does anyone know if the Schwalbe stock on CRC is 2010 or 2011? It makes a difference on the Tubeless ready side of things I think.
I have asked them, but they're being somewhat slow.
If they're listed as "Triple Nano" they're 2010, if they're "Pace Star" or "Trail Star" compound they're 2011.
You're right about the 2010 ones not being 'Tubeless Ready', but actually depending on your rims the older ones work better - with newer Stan's rims (Crest/Alpine/Podium) the 2011 ones are insanely tight, whilst the 2010s go on and seal really nicely.
Thats great, thanks.
I've had DT5.1s and a few standard tyres rolling off various rims, so I'm kinda used to tight fitting tyres, and infact I'd rather that to minimise the chance of roll off.
Oh, if anyones interested, CRC neatly avoided my direct question and pointed me to a UST Schwalbe tyre.
Thats basically 'they're not 2011 tubeless ready' in my book.
buy them from one of the German websites. **** CRC
Buy them from On One, even if they're not 2011.

I did! ๐

Had the exact opposite experience - had to put a tube in a 2011 Nic last night, on and off without levers, and set it up tubeless again this morning, again the same. No grief at all.
The 2011 seem a bit unpredictable. I bought two a few months ago and had all sorts of problems getting them on, bought another two and they fitted really easily...
The 2011 seem to be a bit stronger, the 2011 2.25 do drag a bit more though (I thought the 2.1 felt about the same as previous years - could all be in the head though ๐ฎ )

True, I've never had as hard a time mounting a tire as I did with the 2011 Big Betty in trailstar compound. However they have bucketloads more traction then the old triple nano, and don't roll a lot worse. Also they work very well during the winter (freezing temps).
Schwalbe got a lot right with the new compounds, but also got some stuff wrong. My rear Big Betty has knobs ripping off and the center is really worn after just over 10h off road and as much commuting. I've had about 6 sets of Schwalbe tires (Nobby Nics, Fat Albert, Big Betty and Muddy Mary) in prior compounds (mainly triple nano and Gooey Gluey) and never saw anything like it.
I asked Schwalbe if it's normal but never heard back from them, so decided to replace it with another brand...
