I took a tumble while riding down Graveyard on Saturday lunchtime, hurting myself badly and going straight into shock. Luckily enough, a couple of local lads (whose names I cant remember due to the shock!) sorted me out with minimal fuss and got me to the Bryn Bettws centre fortunately not far away. The peeps at the centre were also very helpful, phoning 999 and patching me up as well as keeping my bike safe until I can collect it. I had to make my way to the hospital as I wasn't deemed enough of an emergency (!). Again, one of the lads was superb, driving me to where my OH could pick me up and take me to the hospital.
I managed to not break any bones although my shoulder is badly bruised but had a very deep cut on my forearm which needed surgery to clean up. During the op under local anaesthetic, they discovered that the muscle had separated from the bone and the wound was rammed with dirt from the trail. I was kept in and fasted overnight until they did another op under general and eventually discharged last night when they were happy that they had cleaned it all out.
Hopefully the recovery time will be minimal with no lasting damage and I can get back out on the trails and I'll bump into the guys who helped me out again to say thanks properly.
Looks painful ๐
Hope it heals quick and your back on the bike soon.
Was the bike ok though?
Advert for body armour ... get well soon and good to hear about help you got from other riders
Nice scar! you are now a Lance corporal, do the same again in 6-8 years and you could become a corporal.
Get well soon.
Blimy, that's quite a wound!
Hope it heals up soon.

Advert for not crashing more like !
How do you know he wasn't wearing body armour ?
Great scar .. heal quickly fella.
Hicurrumber.....Only yesterday i was saying i dont wear my 661 elbow pads to often. Now I will be using them all the time!! Shame it takes an injury like that to make me protect myself. Nice shape though, it looks like a mtb version of military shoulder stripes!
Cheers to all the well wishers, i'll be back on a bike soon enough- how long it will be before i keep off the brakes is another matter!
I can confirm the I had no other protection than my helmet, i've been meaning to get knee pads after a couple of minor bumps and bruises now ill add elbow pads to the list.
I think ive become far too complacent on the trails, I ride at Afan a couple of times a week so i'd probably not have used pads if I owned any TBH. This episode means I'll be wearing protection when riding in future.
I'm off to Afan next week and have been toying with the idea of knee & elbow pads. Your post has made my mind up.
Hope you're back in the saddle soon.
Eww. Goes off to find some elbow/knee pads.
Was it rock, bike or other which cut your arm?
Knee and elbow pads ordered here as well!
I dont know exactly what it was I landed on but I guess it was a rock, i'll have a look next time i'm up there.
