[#9843571]

Servicing my mates Jeffsy 29 today and discovered the Next sl cranks have failed at the cinch interface. Looks like the metal interface has simply debonded from the carbon drive side crank arm. Lots of crank wobble. Bit rubbish, but then he's no stranger to a pork pie so they do take some stick!

Lifetime warranty, so it'll be winging its way to Silverfish on Monday. However, this'll presumably take a few weeks so to get him up and running I'm wondering if there's a way to get my slx m675 cranks to work?

It's a Jeffsy 29 from 2016 (so probably MY2017), non-boost, 30mm cinch axle, press fit BB. I'm not keen to swap out the BB for the sake of a few weeks so I'm wondering if there's a way to get an adapter for the 24mm axle six cranks to work with the in-situ BB?

It’s a 30mm BB so putting a 24mm crank in without B.B. swap isn’t really an option.

IIRC there was a known batch issue of those Cranks?

It's certainly a known problem - Google brings up quite a few threads discussing axle interface or pedal insert debonding

There are plenty of BB spacer kits for sale but I'm not quite sure which (if any) will work. Ultimately it'll just be a lipped spacer with a 24mm ID and 30mm OD I imagine?

I've read a few reports where the Next sl arms have been replaced by the (presumably chunkier) SIXC ones, so hoping for that. Lifetime warranty is great but I've never needed to call on a Shimano crank warranty...

It’s always metal:carbon interfaces deboning that seams to be the issue with carbon cranks. I’d say this isn’t so much a Cinch issue as a construction fault. That said, other companies seem to not have so much failure in this way. Personally, I’d stick a Turbine in I think as it’s lighter than Atlas and strong enough for me and avoids the carbon issue completely...

I've used some of the works components adaptors before to run a 24mm shimano (saint) cranks with a 30mm sram bb. They essentially just push into the bearing and that's it, had no problems running them on a dh bike.

Wheels Mfg do 30-24mm adaptors which will work presuming it’s a BB30 or PF30 shell. If it’s a BB86/92 shell then you’ll need a new BB.

This is where I'm getting confused! Pretty sure it's BB92 on a 29 Jeffsy.
