spending a few days in the area and looking for inspiration re the title. Done a few of the usual suspects and sniffing around for inspiration...
Classic Dunkery beacon east to brockwell?
That's the best as said above if you want a wetter one go down from the ford crossing by the road near Webbers post and ride through all the stream crossings down to Horner woods that's nice and stony.
Stone lane north east of Exford is a good one. A bedrock rollercoaster.
There is a rocky descent into Luckwell bridge. Drop off the beacon on the road, over the cattle grid and trail starts on the right hand side of the road.
Did Stone Lane as part of an out and back yesterday.
Think I’ll revisit the area between Lynmouth and Badgeworthy Water with the run down into Rockford...
That will be very wet I should imagine. I only head over there after a dry spell.
Ooh, maybe I should look at an alternative - perhaps the area around Selworthy and Wootton (although I’d imagine that may be a bit soggy)
Last time I rode Stone Lane it had been entirely covered in gravel, to the point where none of the bedrock was visible, pretty disappointing. Same goes for parts of the trail between Weddon Cross and Luckwell Bridge. I'd be happy to hear that they'd returned to their former states.
Plenty of rocks in Horner Woods, if you have a nose around.
Did a loop between Rockford and Lynton, taking in Sparrows Walk etc and taking in Countisbury Hill twice. A most excellent day with fine weather and surprisingly little mud other than a gloopy section near Wilsham. It really is a fantastic area...
