Hello everyone,

Was hoping for some advice about some new cranks for my Cotic Simple. At the moment I have some old Truvativ Stylos ISIS bb, which will be going on my partner's new mtb build.
I was thinking of getting either Middleburn RS7 Unos, or Raceface Deus XCs or maybe Shimano SLXs.

Not sure about the middleburns though, as they have ISIS bbs, I am quite keen to try an external bb crankset. Also, nowhere seems to have them in black, which is a must for me as my bike is fully stealth black! I've heard RF BBs are crap, and the SLXs seem expensive for what they are.

Any opinions or other suggestions for other cranks that I haven't thought of would be very much appreciated. Thankyou everyone.

Just bought a Middleburn Singlespeed crank. 180mm arms, Sq Taper, Silver, 32t chainring in 3/32 width.

They make them to order. Spec it how you want it. I bought it through Mammoth in Stafford, delivery time just over a week.

Alternatively, Tim @ Sideways stocks White Bros, which are even prettier and even dearer. Sq Taper there too.

Where did you manage to get the Simple from!!! If Cy ever gets any more in, I'd be tempted on the Middleburns.

I've had the Simple for over a year now, sorry.
Thanks BigJohn, I didn't realise they made them to order, that is impressive. I definitely don't want square taper thats for sure though.

I definitely don't want square taper thats for sure though.

Why? They are far more robust than most other BB designs, ideal for a SS.

I've rounded the spindles off before, it seems such an obviously bad design. Splines make loads more sense to me.

Anyone have any opinions on other cranks?

superstar Aerozines here.
i got the base one, and the BB that came with is is ARSE.
but i think the next model up comes with a better one,
Ive got a nice hope one (thats not actually been ridden yet)

but back to the cranks
very narrow Q factor
single tension bolt to clamp the crank arm on, bit dubious, but had no problems :s
you WILL need loctite in the tension bolt (for some reason, it seems to vibrate loose without it very easily)
but once locktited, its fine

v light (as light as xtr, if not lighter)
wet look black
If is for a SS, get the basic ones (with cheap rings), and put a SS specific ring on.
you may not have any problems with the BB, i got one of the early batch that had a few problems iirc

Been riding Square Taper on SS for over 10 years now with no problems (but each to their own). I'd go for the Middleburns everytime if buying new, but managed to pick up some 2nd hand Race Face Turbines on here a year ago for a few £...
