anybody got a set? how do they compare to say xt/xtr spd's? i think my xtr m980's are pretty much done, though they possibly could be fixed given a good service etc....thinking of trying some crank bros ones, as a few lads i know ride with them, and they have more of a platform than standard m980' xtrs.....my xtrs have been good but only about a year old and one pedal im sure is on its last legs as its very loose from the axel with some play and spinning mentally fast when spun...

just watched a video for the candy rebuild and they look a breeze to service, which is nice!

so anyone want a cheap pair of possibly broken xtr spd pedals for 20quid? ๐Ÿ˜‰

but more importantly thoughts on crank bros candy 2 pedals please

I don't know about the pedals but I've heard a lot of comments about how crank bros stuff is not up to what you throw at them. In other words they break a lot so I would personally stick to other brands.

Mine been ok. Got candies and egg beaters and still have both shins intact. Have stripped and greased mine soon after getting them though. Just like the easy set up and maintenance and the bit of float helps my knees. Know a lot of other people have had problems though. The snow/ ice/ mud clearance is great as well

You know you can easily service your XTRs? Just unscrew the axle assembly, adjust the bearings with a couple of dinky spanners (6 and 7 i think), half fill the body with grease, and screw it back together. I'd rather have them than Cranks Bros any day.

I went for Candy 1's last year and fitted some Ti axles off ebay - 228g the pair. This was after 3 pairs of 540's that all eventually gave up, after many services/re-greases.

I gave them a re-grease before Christmas, still seem fine.

Cheap way to a very light-weight pedal.

well the video i watched of the shimano looked a little more complex with ball bearings falling out all over the place and using numerous spanners and a special tool to undo the nut?

the crank bros one on their website looks a piece of pee...

they most certainly do need servicing im sure they would be fine after that, but im just intruiged to try/waste money on the crank bros, at least id be confident taking them apart and refitting etc

Only the cheap ones have a special tool.. just a 17mm spanner to get them undone. one is a LH thread, but the bodies are marked for tightening direction.
You don't need to take the bearing assembly apart to adjust it.. It all stays together.. Sounds like a very cack-handed video!

haha it probably is cack handed, but even what you have just written puts me off too ๐Ÿ˜†

if i had a decent video on how to service my xtr's id have a go, though to be honest i was thinking of getting some 'trail' version of them, but the crank bros candy ones have a platform, look like they will get rid of mud better, easy to service etc etc
