So who is it? who was it?
Does a walk like Ian Brown or Liam Gallaghers get you into the top slot or does it take a bit more than a walk to place so highly? Is it his brother,Noel with a bit more sense? KLF for burning a million? Bob Geldof? Lennon? kurt cobain? Shaun Ryder?
Name then here and explain why.
John Deacon from Queen. For the shorts.
freddie murcury for having the best moustache in the WORLD and having the voice of a god! (shame he died 😥 )
I BOW DOWN TO YOU
Lemmy or Slash.
/thread
JJ Burnell of the Stranglers...rides Triumph bikes,Black belt 6th dan & a great bass guitarist....
The smiley one off Buck's Fizz
Keith.
Moon, or Richards, Moon for me though.
Prince if you can call him a band member. He's a bell end, sure, but no-one else is that obscenely multi-talented or simply that good live, especially if you get him in a small venue.
Otherwise, Flea. Ain't nothing like watching a good bassist's hands do their work, and ain't no-one plays a bass like Flea.
Kim Deal from the Pixies/Breeders. Anybody from Sonic Youth.
Flea's great & mental etc etc,but he aint cool 8)
Nicky Wire
Well, anyone who can get up on stage in front of tens of thousands of people in an old granny dress and a feather boa.....
Rob Collins (RIP) from the Charlatans.
Lemmy or Slash.
Saw them perform together at Download. Was magic. My vote goes to Fish out of Marillion. He was so cool nobody noticed he couldn't actually sing. Either that or the piano player out of the Sparks. Come to think of it, he actually beats everybody by a country mile.
Henry Rollins of Black Flag/Rollins Band non-fame
Stephen Malkmus of Pavement
Falco of McClusky/FotL
All of Turbonegro
PJ Harvey
Josh Homme
Peaches
John 'Speedo' Reis of Drive Like Jehu/Rocket from the Crypt/Hot Snakes/Night Marchers
Buck 65
Bruce Dickinson
Commercial Jet Pilot and International Fencer (Fencist?)!
Huey from Fun Lovin Criminals takes some beating. Billy Idol is up there too.
Bjork had the most stage presence of anyone I've seen, apart from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. I remember seeing Aphex Twin playing a live set from the inside of one of those kids plastic houses, whilst loads of teddy bears with rdj faces danced around him. That was pretty cool 😀
bravohotel9er +1
kim deal - ridic
daryl palumbo - Glassjaw
David Yow - Jesus Lizard
rollins
Zack de La Rocha
they dont make front men like they used to
Slash.
Charlie Tuna.
Jagger (on stage)
Margin Walker...thought you'd have gone for Ian MacKaye.............
Forgot about Daryl Palumbo!
Have had tickets for Glassjaw on no less than 4 occasions, but they cancelled on each of them.
Been meaning to ask, is your username a Fugazi reference?
Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto to add to the list.
Ha ha ........too obvious ? Can never decide whether Guy is cooler ??
so uncool he's cool ??
Gonna throw ad rock in there as well.
surf mat
He was until he did that very bad dog thing on tv or that pink slips on mtv . both very un cool
Cancelled- just about forgiveable with Daryl
Has tickets once for Tool at Riverside in Newcastle with about 150 people there. Played 4 songs and then stopped as his voice went......
Add Maynard to the list as well.
Glassjaw are ridic
Kerry King 😀
got be keith moon or Hendrix
JJ burnels a good call.
cant think of anyone cooler than Geordie from Killing Joke tho. cooooooooool and the gang that boy 🙂
John Bonham!!!!
Josh Homme
Jimi Hendix
Rollins - just for living it and being so damned intense, but being a really nice guy.
Hendrix.
"I'd like to dedicate this song to the girl in the the 3rd row with the yellow underwear. Yeah, beautiful."
And too many other coolnesses to mention.
Although JJ Burnel also a good shout, unfair advantage being French perhaps 😉
Its a close call between Flavor Flav or Bez
Thurston Moore from the gr8 Sonic Youth
beth gibbons from portishead. thread closed.
Jessie Hughes
Josh Homme
Joey Castillo
Another vote for JJ Burnel - caught a guy standing a few feet from me full in the face with a flying kick off the stage for gobbing on the stripper!
Kid Creole - saw him live in Marbella in 1986, very, very cool dude.
Bryan Ferry (yeah I know, I'm old). So so cool in a dark suit and white shirt. Lounge lizard extraordinaire.
Have seen him a few times now, including first time round when Jerry Hall was on stage.
(Awaits laughing)
Bez.
Zappa is undoubtedly the coolest band organiser of all time! Okay, maybe him or George Clinton. A fair post.....
Coolest band member no idea, let the music do the talking.
*Edit, on consideration some folk might rate Bootsy Collins. Coolness is a personal thing after all.....
cinnamon_girl - MemberBryan Ferry (yeah I know, I'm old). So so cool in a dark suit and white shirt. Lounge lizard extraordinaire.

Nah thats a good call - lots of talented and charismatic people metioned but for cool?
Vivian Stanshall
Cliff Burton RIP
Josh Homme (QOTSA)
Bootie Brown (Pharcyde)
Thank you TJ. 😀
Mind you, he has a gf in her mid-20's. Younger than one of his sons. 😯
oxnop. Jesse hughes is a F#$king legend! One of my top 3 gigs of all time was EODM at the Astoria.....off the hook. That guy reaaly knows how to work the crowd!
Lowell George
I dont know many but i would agree on Prince and zach de la rocha. what about John Squire?
Huey from the Fun Lovin' Criminals,
Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam,
Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters,
David Byrne from the Talking Heads,
Flea...
Repack - that's the coolest album cover ever
Jim Morrison just because
Johnny Cash so sad, so funny.
Josh Homme is a good guitarist for sure, but he can never be the coolest, he's Ginger. My vote goes to Jimi, You can tell it's effortless, Slash tries a little too hard, Lemmy's just to ****ing ugly, and stupid. Prince shows off just a bit too much, and is a control freak, and that ain't cool, Zappa? to 'out there' to be properly cool, Everyone else mentioned here is too minor league to be king (or queen) of cool
But Jimi? c'mon...The guitarist from soft machine challenged him to a guitar duel and reluctantly Jimi agrees, Larry Nowlin plays this intricate 10 minute prog-jazz solo, hits every note, scales and arpeggios; seriously detailed knowledge, every note played flawlessly, Hendrix responds by turning his amp up to 10; plays one chord, and manipulates the resultant feedback. Huge understanding of what an electric guitar should be used for, something earthy loud, and exhilarating. Not playing loads of fret board ****ery.
Cool.
40 years on, and people are still trying to measure themselves against him..
'****ery' - good one, up there with Thurman's 'rubbage' the other day! 🙂
I'm seeing where DeVs is coming from. Still Jimi for me though.
Steven Malkmus
Kim Deal
John McCrea
Define 'cool'. ❓
Jimi was truly talented, the likes of which we will never see again.
But some people are not so talented ... but they have that special quality of 'coolness'. Bryan Ferry for me. You need to see him live to appreciate it.
I saw Bryan Ferry sat in the back of a Jaguar in Hull once, he still looked cool.
Hull! Nobody has looked cool whilst in Hull before or since.
Lemmy, to be ugly and get to sleep with(allegedly)over 2000 women. He's not really cool now though.
Another vote for Rollins, although Mike Patton comes pretty close.
I saw Bryan Ferry sat in the back of a Jaguar in Hull once, he still looked cool.
It's the way he dresses. 😀
Seriously, I went to a picnic concert (won't say what exactly cos I'll get flamed) but as soon as he came on stage, us girlies charged to the front and swooned for England. 😆
were you shrieking and clawing fek out of yer cheeks?
>Does a walk like Ian Brown or Liam Gallaghers<
S****...
Ferry = good call...
Ok so now i have a winner!

B (linky linky linky)
Peter Murphy - so cool he broke the sound barrier sitting in an armchair.
Nigel Blackwell - absolute mastery of cynicism and observational humour.
No Jim Morrison? Seriously?
I'm not even a massive doors fan but i thought he'd be a shoe in!
Black thought is a cracker though. And as it's band members rather than just frontmen ?love surely deserves a mention.
Evan Dando for slacker effertless cool
Beck for being uniquely talented
All of Urge Overkill- a band that sports White linen suits with Gold medallions of their band's logo while all their contemporaries were tregging around in flannel shirts and cut off combat pants deserves a mention.
Lou Reed and Mick Jones
For being my favourite front men and barely able to sing in tune.
All for different reasons
Jeff Buckley
Frank Sinatra
Tommy Lee
Jim Morrison
Ozzy Osbourne
Joey Ramone
Have you seen Rollins on Full Metal Challenge? (dave) any semblance of cool goes straight out the widow.
John Cale, back in the Velvets days with his long hair and shades, playing drone viola! Man, he was cool. Still is.
Richard Hell.
Yeah Bryan Ferry, very talented. Interesting about how the first Roxy album was made. Bryan sat at piano and basically told everyone else their parts and how he wanted it! Definitely cool!
Also votes for Thurston Moore (lets not forget Kim 'cool rock chick listening to Neu' Gordon) and Kim Deal.
Paul Simonon- the way he dresses, the way he plays his bass etc
Mike Patton
Derek Smalls.
Shrewsbury Town.
edit:
Brian James - The Damned, naturally cool.
Ron Mael deffo! Icy cool.
Captain Sensible?
Got to be one of the Keiths for me. Richards, Moon, or Flint.
oxnop. Jesse hughes is a F#$king legend! One of my top 3 gigs of all time was EODM at the Astoria.....off the hook. That guy reaaly knows how to work the crowd!
I always make sure I see them when they are in the UK. Agreed he is a legend.
First time I saw EODM I didnt really know what to expect,he came on the stage, walking through the crowd to Dizzie Rascal's 'fix up look sharp'by far the best (small venue) gig I have ever been to.
Homme & Grohl for me.
