I know I shouldn't drag the brakes as much but was completely knackered coming down a very wet (possibly icy) hill last night, trying to keep my speed in check could smell the brakes first and then once I was back on the flat noticed that the rear brake would pull to the handle bars with little affect.
I understand what has happened, but do I need to do anything to them to guarentee getting good braking, bleed / change fluid etc.
If it makes any difference they are XT brakes.

Have you checked the brakes since they cooled down?
I'd just rebleed with fresh fluid and hope I had not damaged the seals
