[#10039871]

I have sixteen tyres not on a pushbike in my mancave stockplie. They range from:

*part worn spares,

* damaged tyres awaiting repair,

* ones I am meaming to flog but haven't got round to,

* ones I never got on with and also need to flog

My wife and two daughters have five bikes between them and I have four. I'd like to pretend that they aren't all mine, but that would be a lie.

Please share your tyre stockpile confessions.

PS anyone want to buy a pair of Chupacabras, a downhill Vittoria Morso, an ancient Conti Diesel please message me....

When I was leaving the UK for Oz I gave away about 20-25 tyres including some with labels/packaging still on, all usable including the uncut Wet Screams, was so out of space ended up strapping them to the roof of the hire car to get rid of.

I try to have a one in one out policy.

My main mountain bike (27.5") has two pairs of tyres: High Roller II EXO 3Cs for day to day and High Roller II dual ply super tackys for holiday. I guess that could count as one pair of spare tyres.

I do seem to have some (three?) spare tyres for my hardtail (26") but it doesn't seem to be worth trying to sell part worn 26" tyres.

Way past spare tyres here - I have a rack of spare wheels, all with tyres, cassette and discs on, ready to be swapped on as required.

This could have been me recently, but I sold all the 650b tyres I had, mainly as I no longer have a 650b bike 🙂

I reckon I have about 8 spare 29" tyres currently, but they are all there for a purpose.

One thing I seem to have an abundance of right now however, is 203mm Shimano RT76 brake rotors. God knows why.

Along with a load of used tyres which is well into double figures we have a large amount of new spares in the garage and in the camper. This month, so far, have bought 8 new of the old Butcher Grids, 3 Minion DHFs and 3 Minion DHRs. I also have too many shoes and handbags.

<cough>...… I have 3 large dog food bags in the shed full of rolled up tyres,  about 15 in the garage,  some on some spare wheels & finally 7 bikes with tyres on.....The ones in the shed are nearly all 26", have been stored like that for a few years now & most likely not much good … But last time I counted them there was around 15-20 in each bag

Used to be a real tyre junkie, anything in a sale & I'd buy it.... These days I hardly ever swop tyres about until they've  worn out, I have my favourites & stick with those..... Except for the fatty, which has JJ's for the summer & Floaters  for winter ….

i have 26" tyres despite not having had any wheels of that size for 8 years.

I found some Maxxis in 27.5 to, despite the fact that all my bikes are 29ers!

So yep i  have the EU Rubber mountain going on too. I think that tyres are often so expensive, they get left as a "just in case"

I'm not counting, but, lots. Anyone want a pair of 26 inch trailrakers?

Atually the real worry is that most of mine either came fitted to bikes or wheels, that's a lot of bikes or wheels I've boght.

4 used pairs of 26", maxxis ardent/minion, pair of nobby nics, pair of on one smorgasbord, pair of wired smart Sam's that came on the bike, plus a trainer tyre

In 27.5 I have, used nobby nicsx2, a rock razor, pair of bontrager xr4 and a xr2

27.5 still boxed maxxis minion s/s and ardent, Rocket ron and nobby nic liteskin

So that's 18 tyres for 3 bikes....and I still need to get a minion 27.5!

I don't dare count how many tyres I have spare.

It seems wasteful to bin them but most of them are horrible to ride or need repair...

My 29r (main bike) has only one spare tyre, which is a mud tyre for the rear for winter filth.

I have 5 spare road tyres ffs - I do maybe 300-400 road miles a year...it's just the Vittoria one is a bit perished but might be ok as a turbo tyre (I never use my turbo), the Aksium tyres that came with the wheels are light and moderately grippy but seem very fragile and the continental GatorSkin tyres are well if you've ridden them you'll know. So basically they'll sit there forever. No wonder I can't move in the shed.

Is there anywhere you can send them to where they can be used or recycled? I've probably got 15 or 20, but they're only there because it feels so wrong to bin them.

If anyone has any specialized 26" Slaughter or Butchers I'll happily give them a home in some kind of tyre amnesty scenario...

Took alot of our used ones to Peatys Bike Bonanza last year and they were snapped up at £5 a tyre. I could have selled loads more. I held quite a few back at home as spares but tend to end up fitting new ones. The postage on selling tyres has killed that market for me.

I took four new 26" Butchers and Purgatorys up to the Nationals at Glentress at the weekend to give to a guy who needed some for his son as they were of no use to me, however we never managed to meet up so they have gone back in the garage loft and will go to this years Peatys with the rest.

Once I get a pile of 10 I just give them to a guy down the road that runs a charity doing up old bikes and giving them to kids who can't afford them.

As I change from MTB to road fixed, to off road fixed my tyres change so I end up with 26, narrow 700c, wide 700c etc,. and am never likely to use them again.

I'm spending some time cleaning out the bike store and fitting some old kitchen units.

I appear to have never thrown out any

Pedals

Tyres

Wheels

Since I started cycling around 1991!

So many 26" tyres (although I do still have an old Orange 5 to put them on.

Anyone want some worn out SPD pedals or used 26" wheels?

This is from many moons ago and I think most of these went in the bin.

I’m currently at 8 brand new, spare, 650b tyres for my only 650b bike 😳

27.

8 on bikes

2 on wheels

17 hanging on the wall.

Until recently I had 25 then the STWer up the road changed to tubeless and donated two more.

I usually get them in pairs, the odd number is due to one being totally written off on a broken bottle.

Errr, I don’t think I’ve ever thrown any tyres out in the past 15 years out unless they were totally beyond use. Add into that that I go through phases of changing tyres on a fairly regular basis to find the ‘perfect combo’ has led to a *cough* tyre build up *cough* I’ve no idea how many ‘half a cellar full’ constitutes, but safe to say too many
