Planning summer alps holiday
Anyone used the cable car at La Grave to access the trails?
Wondering what they are like compared to say the megavalanche at AdH. Some of the pictures on the facebook page look a bit full on and the 1000m of descents over 5k suggests pretty steep. Wondring whether to go elsewhere.
TIA
Yes i have used them, can be a bit busy as there are only a few gondolas and very popular with tourists on foot.
As for trails they are awesome but only if like steep with some tech (all singe track).
like La Grave in winter its not for everyone, i would go further down the valley toย Serre Chevalier if you want it a bit easier but still great trails which are not too busy.
I would say the trails at AdH are very easy compared to La Grave but i ride this area a lot.
Alpe dHuez and Les2alpes better for riding by far.ย Chair from La Grave to Alpe dHuez is crazy steep down and up.ย If you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of resorts, Venosc is great and chair upย / trail back is great as is Vaujany / Alpe dHuez - basically you get charm of old school, quiet location with a chair up to main resorts with plenty on offer.
Thanks both - has confirmed my view that it is not for us ( well me in reality), Will got to Valloire instead.
Rode La grave last summer.
its epic, but not for the feint hearted.ย 5 runs and I was done mentally!
A must for a one off I would say.
Aye , the above plus 1.
The trails are either mellow, or intense, and vary around every bend. It is hard to relax. One of them requires descending a rock band via a via ferrata style cable. I enjoyed it, especially in retrospect...
A d'H and Serre Che have loads. I've never been too keen on Deux Alpes. Too berm-berm-tabletop-berm for me. The upper stuff is rocky. Wear leg protection.
