Looks like I'm going to be up in Scotland for a few months work wise and I'm trying to work out the best route to commute by.
I'll be staying in South Queensferry and heading to near enough the Royal mile each day and I'd love to be commuting on the bike. Anyone got any recommendations for a route?
I've found a few things online giving routes but figured someone here might have some local knowledge and a recommendation.
There is a cycle route direct from SQ into town. I'd go straight through to Roseburn/Dalry. It is then the final mile and a bit in the city centre that will just need to be worked out. That bit is tricky at the mo because you hit the tram works at Haymarket. Can you buy the Spokes map online? About £6. It is route 1
Actually, I'd get off the cycle path earlier just after Craigleith (near South Groathill Ave on google maps) and go:
Queensferry Road / over Dean bridge / Queensferry Street until just before the end (the end is now one way going the other way due to the tram works) / Randolph Place / cycle path by the side of the Register House and onto Charlotte Square / clockwise around Charlotte Square (it is one way) / depending where near the royal mile you are heading, then either go along Princes Street and up The Mound or go up Lothian Road, left at King's Stable Road towards Grassmarket
