Have finally put a rack on my commuting bike for over winter rather than a small rucksack on my back but don't want to commit a faux pas

When using only one of a pair of panniers do I put it on the right or left hand side?

I would always suggest the right hand side, as any reflective material will be more visible to other road users and away from any light fingered pedestrians (in case it's not a very well secured pannier)

I'd keep swapping from time to time to avoid having one worn out pannier and one still in good knick

Isnt a left-hand only pannier the signal for gay & single ?

(And that was a non-gay wink).

Left. I dunno why.

There are however no rules worth obeying.

If you must run one pannier RH.

1. Easier to push a bike (if your natural pushing is to stand to the LH of the bike like me).

2. If you drop the bike / crash the rear mech is less likely to hit the ground
