I'm after some bars for my hybrid type bike. It currently has a flat bar but it just doesn't feel comfortable for reasonable distances on road. I'd love to put drops on, but cost wise, its not feasible. Are there any bars out there that will give the riding position of drop bars, but still retain mtb style brakes and shifters

I remember a while back seeing some bar ends that replicated the drops. You won't be able to brake from that position though even if such a thing still exists anywhere.

I would consider just putting bar ends on for an alternative position.

I prefer something comfy but supportive like a Sloggi or similar.

I was going to go drops, instead fitted old fashioned L bend barends wrapped with road bar tap onto flat bar.
then drilled the end of the brake lever and fitted little alloy bars (about 6mm by 25mm for 1 finger braking) parallel with the barend so I could brake in that position too. been using set up for around 6 years now.

L-bends are good.

The other thing is some of the bars you see on German commuter type bikes ... something like these but not necessarily these. I'm sure there are some that are the other way round - with the extensions forward not back.

edit: sorry no direct experience but my mum likes hers (touring cyclist)

ergo grips and bar ends, on a narrow bar. Works fine for me.

I use Ergon GP1 and bar ends too. Those trekking bars look good though.
