Has anyone recently swapped their push bike to a motorized two wheel vehicle for their commute?
I quite fancy keeping up with traffic, rather than have everything skin me in a 30mph limit 😉
After 10 years of cycling to work (6 miles each way), I have this urge to use a motorbike or moped or whatever passes me on two wheels going brrrr 😉
So has anyone moved over recently, CBT, insurance, Tax, kit etc.?
Any advice, do's and don't?
Honda CG125, helmet and some waterproof motorbike kit, CBT should be simple enough.
My commute is just a little more than that, but my motorbike spends most of the time in the garage, wired up to stop the battery going flat. I would rather cycle any day than use the motorbike. It tends to only come out if i know I'll have a very late finish or I need to get home quick for something.
Cycling is so much nicer than the noise and traffic of the bike.
Can't you adjust your cycling route to miss the worse of the traffic? A couple of miles of tow path makes all the difference.
I went from push bike to motor bike ... Then back again... Motorbike too bonkers in London kept getting knocked off feel much safer if slower on the push bike... And it was a big 1100cc touring motorcycle
I do both for my 12 mile each way commute. I find it a bit much to do every day on the bicycle, so mostly use a 125 scoot. But if I scoot all the time, I miss the exercise and fitness,so a mix of both is good.
For a 6 mile commute you won't need more than a 125. Tax is £17 a year, mpg is good, insurance will vary.
My worst motorcycle commutes involved pushing 400lbs of motorcycle to the repair shop...the walk of shame in full leathers is a hot and unpleasant business where small inclines become the Col du Tormalet.
Best motorcycle commute feeling for me is a hot day loads of traffic and my slabside GSXR750 in streetfighter mode - barp brap braaaaaaaaap - clambering over the front end hard on the power. If ever there a motorcycle that egged you on...
