Brompton LEJOG = All manner of WIN!

Richmond Park is a little off limits, I think, as many people are there properly training/riding as opposed to merely commuting.

Who's getting ready for their commute home then? I've got my courier bag ready, my ridiculously pointless and difficult to ride 1k fixie cross bike is ready, I've just checked that my stylish hipster shorts are dry from this mornings ride in and I am so going rip the legs off all the people on sensible bikes that I can find.

Awesome.

All the above should score a massive points bonus if it transpires the commute is less than five miles and has less than 100m climbing in it.

When I do my ride in from Woking to Victoria I go through Richmond Park lots of mamils on the way in or out of London at commuting time... still less that mamils count at weekends!

A low scoring ride home, but I think the Cervelo riding, deep section carbon rimmed, Assos wearing, loud music listening arrogant twunt on Blackfriars bridge may score double.

A couple of ales with Stoner in the finest beer pub in the land eased my anger, however!

What is the minimium age at which you can be considered a mamil? I was thinking 41 and over

🙂 its funny because you can start a thread seriously and then claim to be trolling once you start getting a bit of flak. None of you guys replied anyway, I'm still confused as to what is ok to cycle in/on tomorrow.. 😉

STW type who had to go out and spend £1k on a pompino/pompetamine/cross bike/singlecross so that they'd have exactly the right bike to commute on, then made it singlespeed for added gnarrrrrrr despite the fact their unused road bike would be faster, their MTB more comfortable, and a halfords bike would be less of a thief magnet.

erm...

Almost exactly the same time, Psychle! Didn't see you, though. Would have spotted such a stupid commuter bike! 😉

Is that your normal route home? If so, a pint en route one night? The Blackfriars is nice if the weather's good.

RD, that's off the charts...! 😉

Sounds like a MAMIL Spotters Blackfriars Beer may be in order! What do you ride, Allthepies? Will keep eyes out!

My score this morning.....a paltry -3. 😳

Whicker baskets, all I can see is whicker baskets. It's as if the MAMILs knew I'd be looking for them.....

I don't see all that many other bikes on my commute (none this morning and only a couple of shonky mountain bikes on the way home last night).

Normally I'm almost a by-the-book commuter look - fast hybrid (Roadrat Alfine), big puncture proof Schwalbe Marathon tyres, comfy Brooks saddle, pannier, dayglo jacket etc. Occasionally though I'll take an off-road diversion so when I get near to the office I can look a little inappropriate for commuting on a fairly serious looking full-suss bike. Did that on my Epic last week and had a lot of fun passing other commuters on the way home via the Water of Leith. According to the Bikeradar scoring I'd have done very well (given I was on a full-suss with knobblies on and the bikes I passed were mostly hybrids on slicks) but it almost felt like cheating on the Epic.

I'm going to organise a flashmob of TTers, hipsters and DHers to ride down New Bridge St whilst you sup on your beer-lattes

I believe a silly beard and tats gets extra too.

I saw nobody yesterday coming home, not one single person. I guess that was because it was chucking it down. Just little old fashion victim me out in that stuff then.

Middle-aged man in lycra passed me the other day when I was riding to work. I could hold his wheel just about but when it came to my turn on the front I could only last a few minutes and then he dropped me on the hill before work 🙂

Today I spotted a rotund gentleman on a White framed hipster wagon, with yellow and blue accents.

Wearing Astana White shorts, Yellow Jersey in a TdF stylee, knee length White rugby socks and what looked like running shoes on road clipless pedals

I see no one on my commute until I hit the station, then it's just Women With Baskets, fatty on an Apollo, lot's of dog eared MTB's and Moi on my Dahon Vitesse.I don't subscribe to Yellow Jackets, just light chino stylee, loafers, white shirt, Rapha LSJ, musette and a grin.
Am I in a negative P&L situation like Portugal/Greece and in need of a bail out???

Nothing much to report this evening - perhaps they've found this thread 😆

Although there was one 'tard on a MTB who kept RLJ'ing, riding on the pavement etc, who at a set of lights coming in Twickenham jumped the light, shot across the pedestrian crossing onto the pavement and promptly got knocked off by a pedestrian - my how I LOL'd 😆

I think they have.

However, three sets of deep section carbon, one full matching Saxo kit on a Spesh Tarmac and a lycra clad Borisist. Not bad.

Great thread but can't believe you missed out Rapha kit. as people have said, what is justified (if anything has to be justified that is?) does depend on length and nature of commute. if i did 20 miles on open roads without too many lights and ped crossings I would use my road bike and so wear lycra. but on a 5 miler accross London with 40 sets of lights its hardly worth it so i ride an old hardtail and focus on sprinting and generally enjoying the view, racing cars and cyclists, jumping off sleeping policemen and trying to perfect my route. FWIW I wear Swirve 3/4s in winter and hipsters in summer. and a plain merino top.

*Facepalm*

How could I forget it!

I often see a Borisist in a suit. With a Rapha cap on. That has to be some good points!

Due to the rain, nothing much to report this morning.

One lady (rather nice too) on a carbon Synapse with Jamis shorts, mismatching top and a World Champion branded helmet!

One guy in full Team Sky kit on a frikkin Trek, I ask you!!!!

Little branded MAMILian activity this morning, but I did like the besuited black guy in the porkpie hat and sunglasses on a BMX. Every shade of cool.

And nice Burls/Rohloff/O-O carbon fork action going on on Hyde Park Corner this morning.

That is truly epic! Class.

Also very little proper branded MAMIL action for me today, only a 4. Perhaps the drizzle put them off!

On an aside for the London commuters, a note to Borisists, more notably to Borisettes - There are two options for you here;
1 - Longer skirts
2 - More attractive undercrackers

That is all.

No action this morning for me either, light drizzle early on probably put the others off.. Not me though and still in my Rapha LSJ.. I've yet to see carbon rims and TTbars anywhere near my commute.
And only one Woman with a child seat and basket..
You lot get all the Views..

I have no idea what MAMIL is, so maybe I'm missing the point, but how the hell can you see what pedals someone is using on their Brompton?
Either you're going damn slow or not paying attention. What a silly game.
My commute is nearly all country roads now, so I hardly see any other riders.
Did see 3 blokes wearing identical Catlike helmets the other day. They looked stupid.

MAMIL jackpot tonight by Parliament! A (What is the collective noun for MAMILS?) of them, with so much Assos and deep section carbon I lost track! And then I spotted a four spoke aero front wheel. Dear Lord above, the motherload! 🙂

Hmm, there used to be a guy who rode into Reading down the Wokingham road on a singlespeed track bike with aero wheels, hardly see any SSers there though. Think I saw somebody on a mongoose maurice the other day but most of them are on old canti mtbs 😛

I claim the win today, Victoria bus station, White single speed hipster wagon, deep section rims, silly narrow bars ridden by I can only assume a member of the once great Lampre team judging by his full team kit! Although he may have been on a recovery ride as he was wearing running shoes.
