Does look ok for an xc race course. Quite a few tumbles too.

Might want to stick a SPOILER in the title just in case.

What's the deal if they get a puncture? Is it game over? Repair themselves ? Push to the pits?

Push to the pits usually. Pretty much your race over though.

Who's the bloke commentating? Some pretty moronic commentary, though I guess it is aimed at the non-riding masses.

who's the woman

Did he just say her name was Rochelle? Rochelle Gilmore perhaps given the accent?

Quite possibly. She won the road race in Delhi I think.

Deal with it themselves is the normal way. Or, in a lot of cases, just withdraw since even if you're very quick, that's pretty much your race finished if you're aiming for the podium.

Quick check of her twitter suggests she's doing commentary at the games so would assume it's her.

young alice barnes is having a storming run if she can stay the distance in 4th or 5th.
That family has a seriously enviable level of genetic disposition towards fast cycling (and the mandatory hard work!)

Strange, it looks a lot more tech than the London course but they're mostly on hardtails now?

That rock garden just before the cross over looks to be giving the girls a few problems.
Is the course going to be part of the games legacy?

Yes, it's actually been open to the public for ages.

Back to the race, it's looking like a good battle for 2nd spot although Batty looks like she's piloting a barge due to her size..

Unlike the Olympic course, the CG course has been available for riding for around a year already - and there are no plans to remove it

Apparently, they've added in a few new (old) bits for the race. Would've been great if they've added the old chute from the radio mast, now sadly built-over.

Shame my shoulder's still going to be knackered when I'm in the area as it looks like good fun for a pootle round there.

Hey ho, I'm sure there'll be plenty of other opportunities.

The Australian commentary seems very knowlegable if a little partisan.

Can't believe how well they're still flowing after all those laps!

IIRC if you're running greater that 180% of the leader's time you're pulled from the race.

Could be wrong though.

How many laps is it, and for the men's this afternoon?

Oh come on, they've been hammering themselves in to the ground for nearly 90 minutes, you'd expect them to be tiring and making a few mistakes. Barnes is still light as a feather through the rough stuff

Think the coverage is great, the course lends itself well to the cameras.

I like the course, some faster bits, some techy bits, riding it is very different from watching fit people ride it.

Good coverage of the Women's race- obviously not the scariest course on Earth but pretty good and works really well for TV. Roll on the men!

Yes good coverage. Anyone who thinks the course looks easy should try doing an xc race and see how they find "easy" bits after averaging 90-95% max HR for an hour ๐Ÿ˜†

On a related note, world cup starts again after a break this weekend, full live coverage on Redbull as usual, well worth watching as obviously the worlds best in it, not just commonwealth, Eliminator and Downhill as well this weekend http://live.redbull.tv/

Predictions? McConnel for me at the start although he's a bit behind at the moment...

some of the bikes do look huge on the girls thats for sure

... and by comparison most of the men are dwarfing theirs! The Cannondale full sus at the front looks particularly small

Go on, Liam! not far off the leaders at the mo.
Grant F up there too, biding his time against the favoured aussie.

Would like to see him do well but certain STW member *cough* Darkcyan *cough* would literally explode if he won a medal ๐Ÿ˜†
