Please can you recommend some genuinely good comedy DVDs and boardgames for the xmas period?
The comedy must be neither John Bishop (seen all his material) or Frankie Boyle.
Comedy is such a personal thing it can be hard to make recommendations, but I really like Milton Jones.
Not a DVD and very subjective but I, Partridge is getting rave reviews and can be had as an audio book read by the man himself.
Like Milton Jones though, but I am a fan of one liner comedy, could get annoying if you're not.
Family tradition requires us to have a christmas day fight over either Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit.
MOUSETRAP!
We enjoyed a game of Cranium last Christmas, much to my surprise...
Recently introduced my GFs 14 YO niece to the wonders of Eddie Izzard and she loves it!
On the flip side one of friends really doesn't think he's funny, but then he finds Steve Wright in the afternoon entertaining.
Cranium +1
Went to see milton jones for the second time last friday. My face hurt all the next day ๐
Bill Bailey is great too.
Carcassonne is a good game, there are expansion packs to spice things up too. A good two or three hours with four or so people.
Aye, Carcassonne's good, also Settlers of Catan? Both often available in mainstream toy shops and bigger WH Smiths.
We usually play 'Cat Attack' over the Christmas period. It can take some convincing to get new people into but its excellent fun.
If you want something more strategic then 'Ticket to Ride' is excellent as well.
If you happen to be an F1 nerd then 'Formula D' is pretty fun as well.
Bill Bailey, or the complete Fast Show, possibly with Black Books thrown in for good measure.
As for board games, "War on Terror" gets my vote. It beats playing Scrabble with the rude word bonus rules. Certainly causes fewer argument than Monopoly.
Or Jenga...
Apples to Apples is a great family game, though it fails on the technicality of not having a board. ๐ The rules are very simple and it's a good social game. Suitable for pretty much all ages, playing against each other too.
Settlers of Catan went down surprisingly well with my mum and my neice and nephew last year.
+1 Settlers of Catan.
Or if you want to be even more geeky, try 7 Wonders.
