Had a lovely trip to Clumber Park a few weeks ago, nice traffic free cycling with the mini-me's etc. Wondered if there was a more local alternative though as I'm not a fan of driving too far. Anything similar in West Yorks that I've overlooked? We're Brighouse based (HD6), so something within 20 miles would be ace.
A quick Google has not been overly enlightening, so
suggestions please! ๐
EDIT: Should say the minis are only 3 & 2, I've got one in a trailer and one on a balance bike - flat/firm is good!
Try the Anglers Country Park at Wintersett, its about 4 mile south of Wakefield near Crofton. Theres a flat hardcore path around the lake (will be puddles if its rained!) or you can do a loop on fireroad around Haw Park woods, takes around 30-40 min. There's also a good play area for kids & cafe at the visitor centre .
How old are the kids?, I live 5 mins from Lumber, a mean Clumber n thinks its sheet,!,last time we went it was full of suicide dogs looking after pensioners, that grunt n grumble,Sherwood Pines is only 10 mins further much better for cyclists,& not many redsocks, ideal for kids n summert to do for all ages...
roundhay park is ok with the kids, some nice little tracks.
fly line from aberford is a kid friendly ride out to garforth and back.
bit further afiels, skipwith common is ace too.
@reedspeed - he's looking for somewhere nearer home - HD6
Clumber is my stomping ground also - There is a lot more to Clumber than just going round the lake - or if you ride at night you get the place to yourself!
@Woody - sorry, can't help with anything in your locale, but glad you enjoyed Clumber with your kids - my 2 girls (10 and 8 ) enjoy riding there too
Pugneys at Wakefield? Longdendale near Glossop is a great bit of railway track turned cycling path, hard surface. How about a loop of Ladybower Reservoir, or a longer loop from the visitor centre nearby?
Swinsty Resevoirs are good for biking round - plus you've got Stainburn near there too for when they get a bit more gnarr ready.
Also Rother Valley Country Park. Bit further afield, but 15 miles short of Clumber.
lots of little local places in Leeds that I know (probably not worth a drive out TBH) Dalby has plenty of wide traffic free paths for all the family? Closer in is Otley Chevin, the Spen Greenway follows the canal down your way I think? Up the hill to Wyke and then off into Judy woods in Bradford is good mix of wide paths and cheeky singletrack (if you want it), Ogden resevoir can be fun with kids?
Cheers all
reedspeed - we thought clumber was great, perfect for young kids and the cafe/play area was good too.
jturn - that looks good, might just have a look over there.
ton - I'd thought about Roundhay after I posted, prob check that out too, ta. Is there any riding at Golden Acre park do you know? Temple Newsam?
Scapegoat - good info, cheers. Is the loop around Ladybower all traffic free?
Judy woods is under water, with mud on top of that...then some more water.
ton - Member...bit further afiels, skipwith common is ace too.
watch out for the cows!
Yeh, I'm a Judy Woods local ๐
No riding at Ogden meehaja, riding round the res is verboten as far as I know and I don't fancy dragging them up the bridleway up to the windmills ๐
Greenway's ok I guess, but I like going for coffee and cake after!
Dalby will be next summer, just too far to go when they're so young IMO - time driving must <= time riding for me.
Pook - will I get mugged at the RVC? ๐
Cheers all
