They're white, hence need to clean..

You can do a lot worse than wear it in the shower from time to time, let the clean water wash all the sweat out. For the straps - shampoo? And don't get white straps next time 😉

Shower best place to clean your helmet.

I just clean it in the shower and give the straps a rub with shower gel or hand soap. Make sure you rinse it all out well.

Can you imagine what missus will think if she walks into bathroom when I'm soaping my helmet straps?

It'll ruin her....unless I can get her to do it for me...

Good idea though, maybe I'll just rob a mannequin head from debenhams.

I dunk mine in the sink with some warm water and a drop of fairy after every ride, leave for a few minutes, rinse, air dry

Just stick it in the washing machine. What's the worst that can happen??

Straps can be detached from my Giro via slots with stays sewn into the ends of the straps which engage to keep the ends in place. Just undo everything and pull then out, bung then in the missus' tights bag and put them through the wash. Make sure you take photos so you can work out how to rethread it all again.

Soap, warm water and a nail brush.

Can smart a bit though 😉

as a sweaty beast the straps on mine get quite nasty. My helmet goes in the bath with me post ride, as above, shampoo rubbed in, and then left for a few minutes.

Post each ride my gloves, chest strap, helmet pads and helmet go in the sink with a drop of laundry detergent. Rinse and dry. No issues in over 2 years of washing my 661 lid like this four times a week and no stale sweat smell from any of my kit.
