Having a moan I know but for ****s sake. An occupational hazard or just sad, irritating w***ers who've got nothing better to do than ask for pictures and then lack the courtesy to reply?

David if you happen to read this, it isn't directed at you!

I'll give you 10p. I feel it is a fair reflection given how whiney you come across.

i haven't sold a lot - but some people play games - go silent for three days then ask for discount!

others hassle you to send stuff out really quick; then don't need it! that is frustrating!

Happens to me when I sell stuff but I don't really see a problem.

Whats just as anoying is those who advertise items, agree a price then don't get back to you with payment details and then re-advertise the same items a few days later.

Whats all that about?

Advertised a seat post once, link in ad to pics on Flickr. Chap emails me asking for better pics. Fine, took some better pics and emailed them to him. He complains that they weren't good enough. Took more even better pics of the damn thing. Emailed those to him. No response. Now that's annoying.

A quick reply to say thanks for going to the trouble but he'll leave it would have been fine. No response was downright rude in my book.

I would tend to side with travellingman.

It used to be straightforward with most using common sense and at least having the manners to say 'yes please' or 'no thanks'. Not a lot to ask if you have taken the trouble to supply more pictures or details. I seem to have been messed around an awful lot in the past year and I don't sell all that much.

Edit: IanB - you beat me to it !

It's not as if they're wanting to commission a painting of the item!
Surely it's no hardship emailing a few pics to people who may be interested in spending some of their hard earned money on used goods.
If I sell anything I'll stick a pic up. Be it a tenners worth or £1k.
The more info they get in the first instance the more time saved for everyone.

edit: Agree about manners if you have to go to extra special effort though.

Be it a tenners worth or £1k.

I've noticed that the number of pic/detail requests is inversely proportional to the value of the item for sale!

Ian B and Woody, that's the point I'm trying to make. I'm happy to spend all day (within reason) answering emails but a simple 'thanks but no thanks' goes a long way.

Just simple manners really.

I have to agree. I usually post pics unless I make an "on the spot" ad and then will add when I have time/pic available. It's not a problem emailing someone a pic or two or answering questions. So why then is it any harder to email back to say "not interested, thanks"? I get quite a few "have you still got X cos I'm really interested" or " will you take £x instead or can you drop the postage" etc and again nothing else. I had a turntable on Gumtree a couple weeks ago. Get a mail after a week " have you still got the TT as I really want it, do you have any speakers as well for sale?" So I reply yes still for sale and I have two different pairs of speakers one set on another gumtree advert and one pair to be added which are such and such. Nothing for a week. Email again - still have stuff if you're interested and I'm prepared to consider an offer. Nowt.

Really gets on my t*t end. Manners cost nothing but then I suppose there are a load of people who have nothing better to do than get expectations up for the laugh.

Must be hilarious!

You've made a big assumption that he had the time to answer after you sent the photos and wasn't attending to some work or family emergency etc.

This silly bother could all have been avoided by you put photos in the original post IMO.

FAIL is on you

I can't really understand whinging over having to email pics, surely if it's such pain to email every bugger who asks then its worth the extra five mins to upload a pic and link it. As for wanting a response, why? I take no answer as not interested, personally I'd ping back a ''ta but no email'' but don't see it as essential...

i reckon i've sent pics to at least 20 people off here in the past couple of months. TWO of them have bothered to reply. If its too expensive, just tell me! I'm at the point where i can't be arsed any more. I try to reply to everyone as its just polite.

Agreed it is annoying. However has anyone ever had a sale and price agreed, turned down other offers due to general good sportsmanship only to have the original purchaser come up with excuses as to why they can't pay you? So you're left back at square one, only well out of summer so you can't sell your sunglass lenses. Manners cost nothing.

General classifieds moan:

I don't really bother with the classifieds any more, if I can't use it then I give or sell cheap to friends or give to a charity shop.

A few times people on here have needed some obscure or cheap part and i have sent it FOC, not even bothered with postage. Two of them didn't even mail me to say they'd recieved the item or say thanks - that, in my book, is rude.

I emailed on of them to ask if the iten had arrived and got a one word answer 'yes'.

So if you have pics of the items, why not post them in the first place? Surely that would help sell it rather than having to fanny around sending individual pics to people.

Is it because you're lazy and don't want to put them up?

I've had that a few times when I've sent free stuff out
I gave one poor student who was strapped for cash a good Hope headset FOC when he asked if I minded hanging on to it for a couple of weeks till he got some cash,I felt sorry for him so let him have it

I never heard another word 😐

It doesn't bother me that much per se - it's just, I can't comprehend how some people can be so rude

That is incredibly rude...you've gone to the trouble of digging out the part, packaging it and posting it all for nothing and they can't even say 'thanks' 😡

Just think of the time and vitriol you could have saved if you had just posted pics in the first place.

This is what scares me about some folk who sell on STW. You ask for pictures doesn't mean you are entering into any form of contract with them. However some sellers act as though you are out of order etc if you don't follow through with your initial interest. Get over it. Its slightly creepy.

People are even allowed to say they'll take it and then change their mind.

Its not like walking into a bikeshop where if you ask a question you are expected to buy or not allowed to leave (feel bad if you leave empty handed).

Its called browsing. Everyone does it.

I'd have sold my current frame 10times over by now. When I was selling my 456 frame numerous people said they'd have it and then (sorry checked bank account, change of plan). 🙄 😆

No its not.
Browsing is just looking, agreeing to purchase (i'll take it, etc) is agreeing to the buy at the terms offered.

Thats the way it works in the real world.
So stick with "i'll check the funds/missus/piggy bank and if i can i'll have it"

On the free stuff point, i had a big roll of rotor tape and i sent out numerous lengths to peopel off here, probably £15 worth of postage.
How many replies did i get?.........

As for tyre kickers well they come with the territory.

I agree about people asking for photos needlessly, I've even seen ads where pics are linked to in a flikr account and people have still asked for photos to be sent.

Oh and people who dont acknowledge receipt of something are just bloody rude and ignorant.

Hora casting judgement on classfieds = LOL

Don't mind sending pics when asked, BUT...if someone else wants to buy in the meantime then it's theirs, asking for pics dosnt mean they get dibs on anything
Also replied to WTD adds, agreed a price then........ NOTHING, no payment, no replies nada...zilch, while still posting on here, don't mind if they have a change of heart but LET ME KNOW......
Sometimes it's less hassle on fleabay regardless of fees

It's because I do most of my posting when I'm at work ( 😳 ), and my work connection doesn't allow photo hosting sites. So I have the photo's on files I can immediately mail out.

i couldn't care if someone doesn't actually want to buy what i'm selling once they have seen pics but it would be nice to know one way or the other. people soon get annoyed when they think they get gazumped on a item. i always give them a day or so.

manners cost nought where i come from.

Lets face it 99% of the time NONE of STW NEED a new bike/frame/fork etc we are just perpetually shopping (grazing) on here for something different.

Same here.

Then by the time the first tyre kicker has decided against/not replied, the other interested parties are no longer interested either.

Still, mustn't grumble or I might prompt a withering comment from one of the withering comment specialists on here.
