Sold an item on the classifieds, I was a bit slow in getting photos as my gearbox on the car gave up and it was consuming all my time last week, and the guy started puting pages in the classifieds main page, sent the guy clear phots and gave honest description of scratches/damage etc.
The sale went through and I posted the item literally straight away.
Go on the classifieds today and the user is now selling the item for double the price !! Surly thats taking advantage of the idea behind the FREE classifieds??
Im not a siant and have not donated to the forum yet, but keep promising to soon when i have the cash.
unfortunate but you sold it for way less than it was worth then...
I guess if you sell stuff cheap that's the risk you take.
You got what you wanted presumably, what's the problem?
I think the classifieds desperately needs a feedback system to try and limit people's ability to take the mickey on both sides.
A lot of stuff gets traded on there at good prices, but from now on I'll be using ebay after having a few purchases that were a bit troublesome - not horror stories, but equally not smooth running.
In the distant past I have been properly ripped off on the classifieds (entirely different item to what was listed), but I managed to flog the kit on and get my cash back through ebay.
I dont care that its selling for more than I sold it, I sold it for what I thought it was worth and was happy with that as i really just want my shed back instead of being full of spare bike parts
I agree its a p**s take, its not what the forum is for, its not a means to make money but a quick, safe (hopefully) and easy way to aquire bits for a reasonable sum of money. Its just not cricket.
I sold it for what I thought it was worth and was happy with that
so what's the problem? if he'd sold it on elsewhere would you still be happy?
It's a bummer but I guess some people are like that. As far as a feedback system goes at least the newer forum allows you to see a users old posts through their user details. It's crude but a god way to see what they've been trading in prior to the sale you may be interested in.

So, you're happy?
I've sold bits only to see things sold again in jumbles for 3 times the price later! I got what I wanted but assumed the guy was ripping people off.
Don't waste thinking about it.
As above, don't really see what the problem is here. You got what you wanted for it, he managed to sell it on for more.
I have to say the guy in question does seem a bit keen, seems to be paging people left right and centre
paging people
Which in itself is supposed to be disallowed.
Its not so great for the next guy who could have wanted/needed it and is paying for the pleasure to get it off somone else, i didnt think the classifieds there for people to run small businesses trading in bike parts
Yup seems unfair and not in spirit with the classifieds, [s]fudge9202[/s] I mean the person in question does seem to buy and sell a lot of things.

+1
How come no one else ses this as wrong? The forum is not there as a means to make money or a living? is it?
long since stopped selling stuff on here (cheaply)
now if i cant sell/give it away to someone who i know isnt a c unit, its just rots in the parts bin
Nope your right neil, arguably he's trading as making a profit from sales which is against the classfiied rules.
i didnt think the classifieds there for people to run small businesses trading in bike parts
Unfortunately that is not the case. It is obvious there are several traders in the classifieds who either buy off here then put on ebay or sell via here to avoid eBay fees.

The guy he is eager to get in touch with who has posted a want add for a 4 hole bashguard for example.
Capitalism. ๐
It's not in the spirit but it happens. Check people's history and it's pretty clear who's just in it to make money.
And I can totally understand why the ST guys don't want to put a feedback system in. They're not ebay, they make no money from the classifieds so why would the go to the trouble and work, not to mention the crap they'd then get in future when stuff happened on the classifieds and people considered them responsible (as they do ebay) for not policing it properly...
they make no money from the classifieds
Which is why they don't like 'trade' in the classifieds.
[s]Maybe they could put in place a system where if you start more than X amount of posts in the classifieds you have to donate a small amount?[/s]
In hindsight that is probably just stupid.
So, report the person. If it is considered trade they'll ban them.
My hit rate of satisfaction (both buying and selling) is probably 60/40 in favour of good experience but it has amazed me how many robust bearings on frames and wheels suddenly deteriorate with me having one ride on them!!
I have posted before when someone did it on me that I think it is not within my understanding of the stw spirit for people to be trading to make profit but each to their own!
I can see that it's a headache for STW, but at the moment the situation places all the power in the seller's hands. If someone rips you off, they've got your money, they're probably miles away, and you're pretty stuck.
On ebay, they're apparently very good at snatching back money, and feedback creates a serious incentive not to misbehave.
It could even be as informal as posting on the Classifieds thread once you've got the kit that it arrived in a timely fashion, is OK etc. Not formal feedback but it's a lot better than trying to work out if someone's a chancer or not from their posting history.

I have done in the past a few times.

Absolutely - no changes required and self policing though open to abuse I guess (but I don't think that's much of an issue).
So, what's stopping you?
So, what's stopping you?
It's not my place to start it. I'd not go back to stuff I've bought and leave "Feedback" now as it wasn't the norm when I bought the kit, and everything has arrived / been sorted out now, so I don't think it would be fair. And I've no plans to buy anything else off the classifieds in the forseeable future.
It would also need to be adopted pretty much en masse to work - ie, encouraged by STW towers?
Flame 'em if you think they are abusing the classifieds?
How about only letting users post to classified if they posted to chat and bikes? Maybe you have to have posted within a week or two of wanting to post a classified.
So people would just post rubbish in order to post a classifieds ad...
Hmmmm maybe that's already happening ๐
Think you'll find that it is scientific fact that all proper STWers are incapable of writing dull, inconsequential tripe, as well as being gnarly all-mountain singlespeeding gods/goddesses.
And have really cool bikes, so the classified stuff will be better too.
And the paging continues.............
