Any reason not to run over to Halfords and get these for my SRAM DB8s?  Only a tenner.

I've used them. They are OK, not the best - maybe feel a bit wooden - but serviceable enough.

You can probably get them for £5-6 on eBay. Are DB8s the same pad as Codes, you could search for them.

Yes they are the same.  I'm not bothered about feel as long as they stop 🙂

I use them in my old Hope Mini Mono's on the trail hardtail and find them great.

I use them, they are fine. Merlin used to have them for £2.50 a set, not sure if they still do.

I fitted them, and yes they are alright, but on steep stuff under hard braking they lack a bit of bite. Probably fine on the back to save some money but not as good for technical MTBing as the stock pads.
