First post around here, so be gentle... 🙂

During the Christmas break I'll be touring the country to satisfy my wife's need to take our 5 month old, first born to see every living relative; So no time for much riding... but I've been given Christmas Eve off.

We'll be up at my wife's family in Denton, Manchester and I was thinking of a trip to Lee Quarry. Being a 'Southern Softy' and it being the depths of winter I don't fancy a trip to the moors, so I'm looking for something trail center like.

Any other suggestions/ideas?

Ta muchly!

Gisburn Forest? Nowt wrong with Lee Quarry but it's maybe a bit short. You can do Gisburn then drive to Lee Quarry on your way back?

If it *must* be a trail centre then yes, Lee quarry or Gisburn are closest/ Llandegla is doable via the M56, and just a little furhter takes you to Penmachno, but travelling time from Denton will be from 45 mintues (lee quarry) to 2 hours (Penmachno)

There's a *possibility* that MartynS, Mrs NBT and I will be out round Marple on Christmas Eve, the STW Marple ride went down well - we don;t have to do the full route if you don't feel like it, but it's a cracking ride 🙂

Llandegla is not too far from Manchester either

It doesn't have to be a trail center; just an (very) easy to navigate route. Ideally I'd like to discover more local rides, as I will be spending more time up there now. Natural is best after all! 🙂

But... I've also heard good things about Lee Quarry! 😕

nbt/Junkyard - Thanks for the invites; I'm interested in the Marple ride if you are going out. It'll be good as it's pretty close and I'll be doing quite a lot of driving that week, so less time in the car the better! (More time for riding too, right!? 😉 )

I'm no race whippet, so don't want to slow any one down, but let me know if you guys decide to go though.

Ta.

Pete - all nbt's rides are sociable and go at the pace of the slowest.
You know the type, a bit of banter, stopping for snacks, pointing out points of interest e.g where so and so fell off last week. All good fun.
I'll be going. 🙂
