im thinking about getting a new bb, would i see much difference in the chris king bb other than a chunk of cash out out of my wallet?
Unless the CK BB last 5-6 times longer than the SLX BB i'd stick with SLX (About £12 on rosebikes.co.uk)
factor in the cost of the grease tool as well It is an absolute complete and utter rip off at another £40 so that is to outlast circa 10 slx ones
I'd sooner get a set of full ceramic bearings over a King - similar cost, but they really will last forever, and negligible rolling resistance.
What's the cheapests anyone's found the CK BB for?
just to counter the discussion & to answer the above question. yes the king would easily last 6times longer than the SLX. leogang-austria DH trip last year was filthy dirty & torrential rain with the bike getting numerous jet washings (yes I know you shouldnt..).returning home the bearings were gritty. a simple regrease & the BB was silky smooth. my friends shimano saint b.bracket given the same conditions, was dead.
ok then so CK is out of the window, what about a hope bb with ceranic bearings?
I have a hope ceramic bb in one bike. Not had any trouble since fitting 3 years ago.
I also have a SLX on the other bike which has been perfect since fitting 18 months ago.
Shimano bb on the road bike died after a few months.
Go figure.
I would prob just go for SLX in future based on this experience
why not ceramic bearings for your existing cups?
SLX
