[#9954906]

Little one is 9 months now, so ripe for first bike adventures.

I have been given a hamax rear mount bike seat, but I think we'd both prefer a top tube mounted one.

I've never used anything like this before.

Whats the choice? A weeride appeals being centrally mounted.

Going on a rigid bike btw.

Seeing as you've got the hamax one already why not give it a try? I preferred it to the Weeride as I couldn't get on with the 'knees-out' pedalling style required, but others may well differ.

I was given a rear mounted one, was useless - struggled to mount it to any of my bikes and when I finally got it fitted it bounced around a worrying amount, certainly would never use it off road.

Bought a Weeride after borrowing a mate's, fits really well on my Airdrop and is usable on my NP Scout hardtail. You need a slight lip to the head tube to give it something to grip at the front and is better if you've got a longer frame with wide bars #enduro #gnar etc.

Much better balanced than the rear mount, we happily ride fairly rough stuff around the Malverns on ours and it's nice to be able to chat as you go. Yes, you're very slightly knees out but if you're tallish it's fine, the only thing you struggle with would be standing up pedalling - you can sit the seat quite far forward too which helps though.

We were given a Hamax by my brother in law, but I preferred the idea of having LittleMissMomo where I could see her so bought a weeride. Only issue is that it's not long enough for my frame (Large genesis tarn, 465mm reach not sure what the TT length is) so I've had to use the seat tube brace to attach the rear bracket.

She likes it, but has an annoying habit of hanging over the side to hit my knee as I'm pedalling. Haven't had it on the bike since October/November when I managed to cycle her to nursery on an unseasonably warm day, so it'll be interesting to see how she copes now that she's a but more solid and in control. I will also try the Hamax to see if she likes it and we have a child trailer too (we used this first with a car seat strapped into it)

Weerides are great but I'm just shy of 6ft 4 with a niggling leg injury which really doesn't play well with the leg out riding style required of a weeride. Probably going to try a Thule Yepp Mini as it sits higher up on the stem dutch bike styleee.

Edit - to add in case anyone pops up on here.....if they have a MacRide they're looking to sell I would be interested. Ta

I use a weeride daily to take youngest to nursery. Got it on a longer frame (Genesis Day one). By having it as far forward as possible and not set too low against the top tube the knee clashing is minimised.

We used a trailer from about that age. I find them really practical and it keeps the extra weight down low.

Weerides are great, I bought some pedal axle extenders to get round the worst of the knee hitting the back of it.

My three year old still likes to use his, though he is now at the maximum weight limit for it of 15kg.  So they don't last all that long really which is a shame

Weerides put the child in a good position, but I just couldn't get on with the knees out position either. I took mine back in the end.

We've got a Hamax Outback trailer which we find really good. It's great being able to chuck pincnic rug etc.. in the back of it too and it's nice and sheltered.

Someone has given us a Hamax Caress rear child seat. I think I will get a rack attachment for the child seat and try that for when we don't fancy lugging the trailer around. The seat tube attachment only seems to fit one of our bikes and doesn't grip too well due to the very skinny seat tube (25.4mm on a 90's mtb)

Strange, my Edit is 468 and fits ok...

Brill thanks everyone. I'll give the hamax rear thing a go, but as people have good experience with weeride I will keep my eye out in the classifieds / eBay.

I do like the idea of a more centred weight for rough tracks etc. Plus I could fit the weeride to my Turner for a blast round Gisburn 8 (joking).

I have a weeride after all the good reviews on here, but I don't really get on with it - it's probably fine for the odd day out, but with commuting 4 times a week with the kiddie I find

back is too low, meaning the straps flop off

its painful/uncomfortable to pedal with knees out (started to knacker my knees).

Its too bumpy to really use it much offroad anyway, as any vibration off the bike goes straight through to the kid (I was running it on a fatbike to minimise this) - a very gentle fireroad is fine, but anything more savage is a no-no.

So I got this yesterday instead 🙂

I use a Weeride, little miss breadcrumb loves it. Lots of pointing and chatting. I've got it on my SS so climbing is tricky due to having to stay seated and knees out. I might try and modify it slightly to sit a fraction higher and further forward.

It's got me thinking a fatbike could work with its wider Q factor.

the fatbike did have wider spaced pedals, I also fitted +30mm (each side) pedal spacers but tbh it didn't make enough of a difference. It does look like you can drill the weeride to move the mounting bolt further back (and thus the seat further forwards) - the structure under the seat looks designed for this - but unless your knees are nearly clearing it I don't think it'll make a massive difference

My little lad loved the weeride, and I found it much more stable than a rear mounted seat. He's now moved on to a LOCT. I should get round to selling the weeride. Just saying. PM if interested.

Mark - PM'd

Those mac ride / LOCT look awesome!

Is there anything like those available in the UK? I can't see any.

I don't need it yet... but another 20 months or so will fly by.

I used a Yepp mini until my boy was about 2. Fantastic piece of kit, and you can get a tripod for it which turns it into a high chair - very useful when camping.
