First trip (only a weekend) to the Alps in 3 weeks time.

Currently run Butcher/Slaughter or Butcher/Purgatory on my Rocket. Will these be OK for alpine riding or do I need something beefier?

Chamonix has everything inc lots of rocky stuff. Something tough I'd say with spare tube and ability to repair tears. I got away with Hans Dampfs but don't run low pressures.

Where are you intending to ride ? Les Hoiches isn't so rocky more rooty and loam, Brevent rock fest, Vallorcine a mix inc shale

OP also Chamonix as an intro Chapeau ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you are at Les Houches make sure its dry as the Blue has unavoidable woodwork much of it with no chicken wire, lethal if at all damp and we had the bruises to show. Also if you are riding the brilliant Hughes Way make sure the top the chairlift after the hotel is to your left, we went down the wrong side and wasted more than an hour. Also sharp left turn into woods by cabin from grassy 4x4 track is easy to miss. Bring mkney for cheese from the Alpage ๐Ÿ™‚

You should be ok with either, but if looking for new rubber just the trip then dual ply is a good idea. Most of us (I've lived in Chamonix for 5+ years, and am really hoping not to get sent home later this month) run a mix of maxxis shorty, minion dhf/dhr and high roller in dual ply or sometimes exo casing. As jambalaya says, bit of everything and it depends where you're riding, but when it's rocky......it's really rocky!
The old blue and associated trails at Les houches don't exist any more, but the new trails from parion gondola are better anyway. And the non purpose built trails are all better again
