El stupidio™ here didn't check his chainring bolts today. I now have 2 bent rings due to them making a bid for freedom. So now I am going to change the chainset (hate the fsa one anyway) .
Is the new Slx really worth the extra quid over deore?? As the new deore one looks rather good. Is it deore that much heavier these days??
Cheers
Yes, Yes and Yes.
And threadlock them next time.
It's about 70 grams difference between a Deore and an SLX chainset.
you lose 70gms and gain a fair bit of kudos by going with SLX 😉
Any reason not to replace the rings (or are they that stupid 3-bolt 86mm BCD that FSA do)?
There's kudos with SLX?! Sad times! 😉
Nothing wrong wrong with either, if moneys tight Deore if not SLX.
The SLX has proper hollowtech (hollow) arms with steel pedal inserts so should be a touch stiffer and a bit more durable than the Deore. Its probably worth noting Deore bearings are pretty crap and would need replacing sooner rather than later, on balance I'd go for SLX.
Yup stupid FSA 3 bolts that cost a lot and they are cack.
Looks like its SLX then. Cheers chaps.
PS first time this has ever happened in many years of riding.
Deore absolutely fine if you want to save a few quid, very impressive quality for the money these days. SLX is the sweet spot in terms of value for money if you can afford the extra cost vs Deore, IMHO.
