Hi. I need to replace my middle chainring. I'm currently riding a race face 9 sp triple. I would like to change the Middle ring to a Shimano SLX FCM660. Both chain rings are 32t 104 BCD. Are they compatible or do I need to stick the more expensive race face chainring?

Matching BCD's should be compatible, though I think it was mostly shimano that did some funny shaped tabs but most can be fixed with a file if there is a problem. Just be aware that sometimes cheap chainrings can be a false economy if they are made of cheese.
