[#6219493]

Hey ive just converted my 2x10 slx drivetrain to 1x10.... i got a 30t chain ring which was 64bcd so i could mount it inplace of the smaller ring and install a bashguard in place of the larger ring. This is causing the chain to rub against the cassette on the smaller rings.

I have considered adding another spacer to the drive side.... i ride an orange five which is a 73mm bb shell so i have 1 spacer installed on the drive side, im thinking this will likely move it over enough to fix the issue but will this really effcet the ride putting it of centre? im also concerned about the centre tube? adding another spacer will set the cups apart so wont seal properly?

To add it does mention on the orange website that 2x10specific drivetrains are not suitable because the qfactor is different or something but it worked okay with the 2x10 setup.

any help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance ๐Ÿ™‚

I've done this on several bikes with no problems.

You'll probably need to remove a spacer from the NDS if you add one to the DS.

Hang on.... you've got a double slx chainset and you have fitted a 30t ring in place of the granny ring?

If so thats your problem, you should have used a triple, replaced the outer with a bash, removed the granny and replaced the middle ring with one of your choice.

Don't see how you can space it out, you cant do it with BB spacers thats not what they're for.

2x10 works fine on an Orange five despite what Orange say. I'm running a 24-36 (XT triple chainset) on mine, the chain does come close to the pivot when shifting but it all depends on what rings cranks you run, it can be a bit of a minefield which is probably why why Orange don't recommend them.

I already had the slx double as that was what I was already running... I initial thought I would have to out it on the larger ring and not have a bash guard or change to the triple or a single specific crankset but then I found the absolute black 30t chainring for shimano double cranksets... It is a 64bcd chainring that fits to the granny ring leaving the. 104bcd for the bash guard.... Seemed like it would work without having to replace the cranks but unfortunately doesn't seem to have worked as hoped ๐Ÿ™

Sorry mate, don't see any way round it as you can't space the small ring out, the middle ring on a triple sits further outboard so works fine in most cases.

Yeah its unfortunate... you wouldnt advise adding a spacer to the bb cup to move the whole crank out which would move the granny ring?

Im not sure whether to now go for a triple crankset.... or a single specific? hmmm

Unfortunately you can't just add spacers to the BB as you won't be able to get the non driveside crankarm on.

Sell the current chainring / Bashguard and get a 104 BCD chainring. Fit Blackspire bash guard to outside?

What to get... like the look of the raceface evolve singlespecific crankset and it comes with a narrowwide chainring... hope i can return this one to absolute black.

What's the point of running a bash with single front ring? Surely a hardened steel chain in going to cope with being bashed better than any aluminium or plastic bash guard ?

I suppose if the chain gets bashed or bent it could leave you stuck somewhere, if the bashguard takes the hit instead can still get home?
