Hey guys,
wondered if you could help. i have a cube 29er ht running 2x10 sram XO
when going on anything slightly bumpy the chain falls off the big ring onto the small ring. The de railluer is set so that when in the big ring the chian is exactly in the middle so that it doesnt catch any metal. to get it back in the big ring i squeeze the shift lever and it goes back up but it feels like im going to snap the lever. does anyone know of this issue and how to solve it? many thanks
You may have to adjust it so the cage is closer to the inside of the big ring, and have to play to try to avoid chain rub especially if you cross chain (big ring to big cog). And yes, you can technically cross chain like that with a 2x, though you probably don't need to.
To be honest, it was endless dropping on my 2x10 X0 that got me finally into 1x10. Though I got a chain guide for a while, but it was one with a 2x roller and the thing kept jamming and eventually destroyed itself (MRP guide). e13 guide I got to replace it was better, but had gone 1x on the hard tail by then and decided I'd had enough of front mechs.
Still, have you got a clutch mech at the rear? If not, try getting one. It will help keep chain tension and it's more likely to stay on. Though the chain rings are designed to de-rail so it's really the cage that keeps it in place.
Oh, as for the shifting up and lever stress, problem again with the SRAM 2x is they have such a huge step up between small and big rings. That requires more force to jam the chain against the big ring long enough for it to engage on the ramps to shift up. Again, I'm no fan of the antiquated brute force system of a front mech.
