Hi All,
I've put on my free MBUK chain stay protector (neoprene). After just 2 10 mile rides the chain is starting to cut through... Is the problem that this is not a great solution for chain stay protection or is the quality of my free gift not up to usual 'paid for' standards?
Does/will inner tube wrapped around work better?
Who does what for this type of protection?
cheers all.
old inner tube for the win.....
easy to do. double wrap, with lots of tension, the tube at drop-out end and work you way forward. secure with a cable tie of black insulation tape.
last for a good while and can look better than some oily neoprene if done well.
Best, and quietest solution I have used is inner tube. Wrap and zip tie. Currently trying some road bike bar tape but it hasnt been on long enough to judge.
Cheers you two, I'll try that tomorrow, ready for the weekend. ๐ฏ
At last, a solution to a MTB problem that doesn't cost a packet! ๐
Amalgamating tape is what I use. It's tough, tidy and does the job perfectly.
+1 for inner tube or road bar tape. You can get "proper" frame wrap from biketart (and other places, I'm sure), but not sure that's any better than the more DIY options.
Neoprene ones always start to look a bit rough after a while, imo
Innertube cut in a helix/spiral. Wrap round chainstay, bit of black electrical tape at each end and a zip-tie or two over the top. Lasts for years... normally longer than my frames
