When in the granny ring the chain seems to be sticking to it and backing up around it and not running smoothly, the chain and ring are clean so does anyone know why it's happening?

Chain suck. Take the granny off and file any burrs off (gently).

Otherwise the whole lot's going to have to be changed - chain, cassette, granny and middle rings.

Just replace the granny ring and see how you go. Will get lots of people saying that this isn't the "proper" way to do it, but it works for me. Have been running a new granny ring on an 18month old drivetrain without a problem for the last 2 months.

I try not to use the granny too much,no options sometimes though,I'll give the file a go and if no joy looks like it may be a new ring then.
