Flat screwdriver in from the back off the cassette and tap with a hammer

Get a glove on and start at the largest cog and push it out of the grove it's made in the free hub, do this for all that will turn, then hammer again, works for me.

Just persevere! Took quite a bit of hammering to get an SLX cassette off a Pro2 hub - bought an XT to replace it and filed down the jagged notches in the hope of avoiding a repeat.

Wooden/soft end of a hammer and hit the edge of the cassette through the spokes.

+1 for few taps with a hammer from the other side. I used a bit of wood rather than a screw driver. Had to get more generous than i would have liked with the "taps"

It was the rear side tap method that prevailed...

What also helps is two chain whips. One to hold it still and then a second to "undo" the smaller sprockets that have dug in.

Onzadog, just seen your post on the chain length thread and after using the big, big, no derailleur plus two links method myself, I have to agree it is the best method (easiest). I think it's simply down to the fact you have no derailleur tension to contend with...

Just file the burrs off the freehub and you're good to go.
