Carbon frame repainting

Has anyone on here had a carbon full suspension frame repainted? If so, we’re you pleased with the results, and how much did it cost?

I’m looking at possibly getting an ex-demo carbon bike, but I’m not that keen on the colour of the frame - but it’s likely to work out about £3k cheaper than a brand new in a nicer colour! (or £4k cheaper than the really nice colour on the slightly higher spec version). I’ve seen a few places that offer frame painting, but all the examples of carbon frames seem to be road bikes. I wondered about the feasibility of stripping and repainting a full sus eeb frame…hmmm

JMJ designs start from £250 I think, for 1 standard colour and contrasting logos.

He’s done a few things for me & MrsTH, a couple of frames, a fork and a helmet.

That came to about £1250 including the fork IIRC, due to all the design work and time to get the effects/masking.

Carbon helmet, was about £200 (again, iirc)

This one is really difficult to over pics to show how good the paint is but…

About £400 I think.

Doesn’t affect warranty with the manufacturers (except the helmet) and he can strip down built up bikes if needs be

Wish you hadn't shown me that, it is very nice, and I have a carbon frame in need of respray which I am going to do myself with crappy spray.bike as it was done with that originally.

I also only have one bike so going without it for a few weeks is not going to work. How long do they take?

Honestly can’t remember, around a couple of weeks? Will depend on the paint/layers/number of coats I think.

He’s booked up a way in advance though.

ahh, didn’t need to see this! I’m really keen to get my Epic re done as the paint is faded and failing. Some of those projects look amazing! Seriously tempted to get saving!

Thanks for the info tomhoward - wow, he’s made a nice job of your stuff. I’m loving that metallic purple on the Pivot.

Thanks. May be tempted to pick up a temporary frame and send mine off.
