Is it worth double the investment?

Carbon bars definitely have a 'feel' that differs from Alloy - they do genuinely cut out trail buzz.

Although you need to pick your bar - some are more carbony than others.

Only if you care about the weight, IMO.

In my experience, this.  They feel different, and I find them more comfortable, but a good alloy bar will be better than a crap carbon one.

Yes and no. Some carbon bars cut out lots of buzz.  Some are brutal. Same with alloy. I have been impressed with the fatigue reduction from running alloy spank vibrocore bars. No more noticeable 'give' but at the point where you'd normally be shaking your arms out, you are still riding fine with the vibrocores. Magic.
