[#5501089]

Looking for a new bike. just sold a Pompino that was a tad too small but otherwise I liked. Want gears on its replacement, so considering the caad x and the filter. Tried a Caadx in 56cm, good fit but not quite as quick as I expected and alu frame less forgiving than I thought it might be (used to ride a Cannondale M1000 back in the day). Filter is the obvious alt, with a Cross Check given some thought too but can't be bothered building it. Other ideas or views on these? Want to use it for mixed surface rides, credit card touring and I have middle aged fantasies about a cx race. This will remain a Lycra clad dream.

Jamie, had similar abuse from a colleague today. You are both right. Drinking less beer also applies.

Still seem to be around £1k mark in most places.

winstanleys have them for £700. Tiagra group set - does seem a steal.

so was the CAAD x really stiffer that an M1000? I ride an M900 which is pretty bloody stiff

I keep heaqring different things as to whether the CAADs are stiffer than the Supersixes

I was very surprised how harsh it was over cobbles. it wasbok on rough surfaces but that repetitive nature if the cobbles seemed to really transmit. Perhaps the tyres were over inflated.

Love my Caadx (ultegra disc), found it fine off road with 40-45psi until it gets really rough then it's out the saddle. Did a 65mile ride a couple of weeks back 60% off-road and felt fine comfort wise. I found it's damn quick to be honest, running 35mm small blocks for a CX\road mix. My mate was using his with 25mm Conti 4seasons and happily knocking out 20mph average speed road rides of a decent length and was happy acceleration wise. Even said going to his new Super Six Evo there's still a greater difference in his legs on the day than there is between the two bikes.

Give it another try to be honest, i'd definitely buy another. I've fitted some Pro 2 on H+Son Archetype rims so don't know how the standard wheels effect it, but I've always found wheels make a big difference to the feel of a bike. Id say Genesis over Charge, generally better finished frames and nicer looking.
