Does anyone know what time the carpark at the Birches Valley Forest Centre shuts? If it shuts before about 7pm, where else is a good place to park?

I'm in Burntwood on Monday for a training course and instead of heading back to Cardiff in the evening rush-hour I thought I'd take the opportunity to ride an early evening lap of Follow the Dog.....

Cheers,

Alex

marquis drive is a good place to park. Lots of other biker, doggers ect... There. Starts about half way round the dog but never had any problems there.

The BV carpark shuts at dusk I think. A better place to park would be the visitors centre at Marquis Drive. The parking is free and is ungated.

If you park at MD dont park at the visitors centre as that has gates on it aswell. There is a tarmac drive that you can park at and join the Dog just before section 13

Gents,

Cheers for the info. Rode a lap and a half of Follow the Dog last night and then drove home on congestion free roads....

I've never seen it that dry, and there were some braking bumps in interesting places - looks like some-one may have been riding aome of the sections the wrong way......

Umm... doesn't the signage indicate the correct way round?

Somehow I think the locals might have their preferred way of riding the trails, which might not necessarily be the same as the signs point you.... However, I may be confused, but to me it looked like there were some braking bumps in very odd places, which might indicate people had alternative ways of riding the trails, perhaps on night rides maybe….

redx,

It's quite common to come across people riding certain sections back to front in the dark. I've done it myself. If it's after dark you can be seen easily and I give way to people going the right way.
