For example if I have a Shimano cassette

Can I use the sram xx1 rear mech and shifter with it

Been upgrading slowly but phew those cassettes are expensive

I'd like to know this too, you always could in the past, but since SRAM started using their own freebodies I guess not?

I'm running SRAM GX 11 speed grip shift and RD, with Shimano XT cassette, FD and M785 crankset.

All works perfectly.

I've xx1 shifter and mech on one bike, xt on another.

Have run both with xx1 an xt cassettes. No difference in shifting.

Yes, apart from mixing rear shifters and mechs, they usually need to be a matched pair.

No, you have to be either in (shimano) or out (SRAM) ๐Ÿ˜†

Yes you can and it works perfectly . The only thing is Sram and Shimano casettes use different freehubs so you can't just swap them over .
