I'm fairly new to posting on STW - hope that was a suitably Finbaresque thread title ๐
I'm ready to throw some money at a new light to replace my old halogens. At the moment I'm leaning towards Exposure, either joystick or diablo (needs to be both bar and helmet mountable). I'm not sure how much power I want/need in lumens (at the moment I use a combined 25W of halogens, 15W wide and 10W narrower beam) on the bars for my road commute, or the 10W on the helmet. I'd really like more light in both situations if possible, but I have no idea if a 300 lumen joystick will be enough on its own or if a 900 lumen diablo will just be overkill.
Does anybody fairly near the Dartmoor area have a joystick or diablo (or both?) and wouldn't mind meeting me somewhere so I can have a look? Even some other kind of modern led light with similar output would be a help. I need a decent beam spread on the road to see the animals at the sides, and I've heard the joystick at least may be too much of a focused beam.
Does anybody have any real-world opinions on claimed lumens vs halogen wattage? I found somebody on the web saying 300 lumens is as good as 50W halogen, which would mean a joystick would be enough for me (in total output), but couldn't find much to back it up.
Thanks,
Rob
I have a joystick (300 lumen version i think) which is ok but i think it's best used as a secondary helmet light, it's not quite bright enough as a standalone unit.
I use Ayups now and have been very happy with them. The Joystick lives in the spares bin (and gets used on some road rides as it's good enough for that and easy to mount quickly).
Edit: - Mine also had to be sent back twice as the battery never gave me full runtime, infact, i've had a few mates who've had problems with various exposure lights. Shame as they are great little units when working properly.
I have both and if it was the only light I was going to have it would be the Diablo.
Then just run it on the lower settings for better battery life but you have the abilty to have it on the full 90 lumens when needs be.
sorry I am no where near Dartmoor for you to have a butchers ๐
Wow - quick replies, thanks!

How do you find the weight of the diablo when helmet mounted? My current lights have a separate battery in the camelbak with a dangly lead, which annoys me (hence the desire for a cable-free setup), but does mean the actual unit on the helmet is pretty light.
that comparison between lumens and W is nonsense, sorry. have a good look around on here - there's lots of advice on lights.
oh! and welcome BTW ๐
