I am looking for the impossible, yet I think it *should* be possible.
I have a 1 1/8 frame with semi-integrated headset and 41mm internal diameter seating bits for the headset. Surprise, surprise - I wish to fit a tapered fork to it - and am convinced that an external 1.5" lower cup should theoretically work for this. If I can find something to fit.
But - the only external headset cups available for this conversion are of 44mm internal diameter.
Surely, it must be possible to create a 41mm ID external headset cup (that would fit a 1.5" lower bearing).
Incidentally - the headtube interior space is cavernous - carbon frame - so I couldn't see the tapered steerer fouling anything, if it could be fitted to the bike.
I'm sure someone will be along to explain how I'm being silly.
The thick end of a 1.5" tapered steerer is nominally 40 mm and I guess clearances would be tight ๐
As you say 44 mm seems to be the lower limit
Hummmph... ๐
Could I get the ID of the carbon headtube machined out to 44mm? Or would I lose my teeth etc.? ๐
It *must* be possible*

* Probably isn't though.
