Planning ahead, I fancy a trip to some of the 7stanes. Any recommended campsites around the Dalbettie/Mabie/Ae area?

ta in advance

We stayed at Sandyhills between Mabie and Dalbeattie. If you ride a mile or so up the road there is a track which goes into the woods and joins the Dalbeattie trail about halfway round. Pretty good campsite too. There is another a little bit up the road.

I stayed here a few summers back. It's in the middle of Mabie. As close to wild camping as it gets with the luxury of compost loos and showers. They had a hog roast on the go on the Saturday night as well. Great place.

Sandyhills as above. They also have a couple of pods/wigwams.
Castle point is the one along the road a bit.
Kipford is just along the road from there and nearer Dalbeattie
Beeswing caravan park is close to Mabie and Dalbeattie
Gorsebank has pods/wigwams and is a favourite with bikers
Marthrown of Mabie
Mabie House Hotel has 3pods and allows the odd camper onto their grounds
Google eat sleep drink or get there via 7Stanes web site or their Facebook page

Will be or at least some of family will be at Sandyhills with our caravan. We take it down often as young one love it there ๐Ÿ˜†

The coastal path that runs from Sandyhills to Kipford is worth a pedal ๐Ÿ˜€

As per what Stevens says you can access the routes via a track at Colvend and another at Barnbarroch. There is another way if you have the local OS map. You can also cycle across the hills to Mabie via a forest track you find behind Southwick East Lodge

I'm going to go against the grain and Sandyhills is OK, but not great in my experience. The lower field which accommodates caravans and tents can get pretty packed, with little organisation. The upper field is really quite hilly, and you may struggle to find a flat bit when busy.

Kippford is nicer IMHO. More clearly defined pitches and better organised.

Pay your money and take your chance!

Would not disagree with you there Geoff but it is popular. Can pass any comments on if you wish? What would you like done/to see?

Another vote for Kippford, we stayed at Magnet Cottage just by the pub.... sitting there mid summer is the best post biking sunset/G&T combination I have had for a fair while. Lovely..

Ignore me - I'm talking bollocks (what do you mean, nothing new there then!) re sandyhills anyway - I was getting my campsites mixed up. I was thinking about Castle Point.
