Thought about changing some bits of my 9spd drivechain to something a little more modern.
The chainset is 10spd, the rear mech ,shifters and cassette are 9spd, the front mech is a Shimano 105 i had kicking around at the time.
If i go 10spd new shifters and new cassette? do i need a new rear mech, or will new jockey wheels be enough assuming they fit?
If i go 11spd do i need to add chainset to the list of bits that need to be changed?
To go 10 could be as simple as a new cassette and a new index gear, tho they are fiddly to fit so a new shifter might be easier.
Index gear...

Jockey wheels should be fine, same for the front mech and rear mech
(tho all this depends on which model of 9spd you have, there are 2 types of campy 9 speed )
Rich.
i know about the index gear, I still remember the blood and skin lost trying to "mend" the springs in an older set of Ergos...
Just like the feel of the new Ultrashift levers as much as anything.
I've got some Centaur ultrashift ergos and they're nice - hellish to cable up though (requires the new cable set - you can't fit the old ergo cables), oh and you'll need a Torx driver to fit them to the bars.
Internally, 11 and 10 speed chains are the same dimensions. 11 speed outer links are thinner to fit in between the narrower and closer spaced sprockets on the cassette, but the internal dimensions are no different. So, don't believe the hype about compatbility. From tried and tested experience the following is true.
Chainset
You can use 10 speed with 11. The internal dimensions of the chain match the old chainring width perfectly.
Rear Derailleur
You can't use 10 speed with 11 as the pull ratio is different.
Front mech
You can use 10 speed with 11 as although the cage is wider on 11 speed than 10, the ratchet in Campag compensates as you shift gear in multiples of small 'clicks', not in one sweep. In the same way that the same front shifter can be used on both Campag doubles and triples, you just need to shift a fraction of a mm more to compensate. Not sure about 9 speed, but no harm in trying. If it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything.
Shifters
Obviously not. Although your replacement might work, I have heard otherwise as the locator is different on the 11 speed internals to 10.
Chain
Sorry not compatible.
I agree with the other posts about instaling new ergos. The cable routing is fiddly and you can't help but kink the cable. How pro mechanics cope with the frequency they have to replace cables I just don't know.
I am fortunate. I have Super Record 11 on 3 of my bikes and Chorus 11 on my training bike. Close your eyes and you can't tell the difference and you can get a full Chorus 11 groupset for £700 if you shop around. Take off the chainset which will work with your 10 speed and you are talking £500ish. Go on. You know you want to!
