Hi there,

My Giant Trance has developed some play around the top shock mount meaning that the top bushing needs replacing. My question simply is what size and type am I after as I am a little baffled at the moment!

Thanks in advance!

Russ

I've got the 2009 pre-"X" frame and it's a 22mm, 6mm bolt size (or 1/2" Fox). I don't think they changed when they went to "X" frames.

bush is defined by the shock, not the bike.

Go hither:

http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/items.asp?CategoryID=92&Name=Strong+Bushes

and choose the appropriate part from the menus.

all fox shocks are the same (and most trances are on fox shocks)

1/2" fox hula hoop

if you have left it too long, the alloy top hats will have worn, and will need replacing too, best to replace with the betd steel "strong bushes" imo

if the play is recent, they will be fine though.

the top hats are SUPPOSED to be slightly tapered at the "top of the hat" iirc

when you fit the new hula hoop to the shock, you should find the top hats are a very tight fit and require tapping in with something like a hammer (or back of a spanner if your a heathen who cant find his hammer like me)
they will have "fallen" out of the worn bush.

hope this helps
if anything isnt clear, i can try and clarify :s

if you like tools the bush tool makes the job SOOO easy, and comes with a bush for the first use.

i recommended it.

if your not a tool whore, they can be carefully pressed in and out with a g clamp or similar
