Like Matt says, flat, it's cattle farming country all around Calgary. About 1.5 hour drive to Banff though.

I was posted out there in the 90's and been to Calgary quite a few times and a lot and around Banff and Jasper but don't know anything about the mtb trails around there, thats why I am asking if anyone had been around there.

I live in Calgary. Is there something specific you're wanting to know?

Check out the riding at Fernie (3 hour drive) and you will get on the plane tomorrow. There is the best and most range of things to ride that I've ever seen. Anywhere.

I'm at home with a sick toddler so can't write a big response but will when I have a bit more time. On a side note low oil price = bad times for Calgary so employment market is grim. Also weak CDN $ makes things $$$ (although perhaps still cheaper than UK).

Look up MMBTS. West Bragg creek trails. Razors Edge.

Bike pirate has most of the trails on the web or trailforks on pinkbike.

Fernie is 3 hours away. Revy 6.

Limited mountain biking in Banff proper as National Park not keen but plenty outside.

Thanks Sweaman for the heads up, I'll look into those places you've mentioned.. if it does happen it'll be about 12 months time, just waiting for the right slot to come up for a move.

not much going on in Calgary town

Bowness/Sideshow before the floods but look knackered last time I was there.

Lots of trails bragg creek full of knuckle head Canadians

Trails on the Ski Hill in town

Lots of tarmac trails around town

Jumping pound ridge is probably the closest set of trails that you would enjoy

Having said that and I've mentioned before - Calgary is the absolute shit hole of all shit hole - Also factor in that your bike/your bike wont want to set foot outside for 5 months of the year

take a trip to Nelson BC - Squamish - Revelstoke - Field - Fernie - Golden

Only time I actually enjoyed biking in the city limits was my commute to work in the summer and Bowness/Sideshow

Thanks plumber, I'm more into enduro style trails as flat trails bores the tits of me.. it would only come in handy to try and get the wifey into it more than anything
